Unfortunately I have yet to see Marah play. I've heard alot of great things about their high energy shows. I love their stuff - although I still have to get their most recent discs (the regular one and the X-mas one)

One band I forgot to mention that puts on a kick-ass live high-energy rock 'n' roll show is Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers. Their shows are wilder than the Waco Brothers shows.

My biggest concert disappointment was driving out to this tiny dive bar here in Jersey to see the Old 97s a couple of years ago only to be told that Rhett Miller lost his voice and they had to cancel the show. Oddly enough his voice was good enough for a show the night before and one two nights later. A couple of days after the show was supposed to happen the band posted an apology to their website for cancelling and added a note saying they were disappointed too because the bartender (or bar manager) had told them that Springsteen was planning on stopping by to see the show.

Unfortunately, like many great musicians, Howie's own demons did him in.

Still, Tom Petty's albums haven't sounded as good since he was replaced (in my opinion). However, Highway Companion is quite good.

my favorite record right now is tv on the radio's "return to cookie mountain"

  5. EStreet,

You need to get Marah's most recent disc. It's as good as Kids in Philly. ... I wasn't thrilled with their third or fourth albums, but If You Didn't Laugh, You'd Cry is on par with their best stuff. I listened to it for a month straight after buying it.

I absolutely loved their fourth disc - 10,000 Streets Under the Sky. I think it's their best disc. Although there's alot of stuff I like on Kids in Philly too. So one of these days I'll pick up that most recent disc.

I think my favorite song on there at the moment is Night Driver (no. 8).

Followed by Ankle Deep, The Golden Rose and Down South.

I'm looking forward to getting that record. I'm just waiting for the U.S. version to be released this fall (hell with paying import prices). They played in my neck of the woods a couple of months ago, but it was the night before my best friend's bachelor party....and I figured going out to see a band the night before a daylong drunk wouldn't be a good idea.

it's a very different direction for them. very subtle, soulful ... and almost an ambient/electronic feel.

  12. I didn't particularly care for Float Away, and while I liked 10,000 Streets Under the Sky at first, it really seemed uneven. There's a big lull in the middle of the album, and I also never warmed up to Soda.

Pizzeria, on the other hand, I loved, and that seemed very hit or miss depending on who I was talking to. Some people, like me, loved it. Others didn't.
