Any Centro-Matic fans on the board? I'm going to see them next week and don't know all that much by them. Any recommendations?

they are fantastic. best album is "love you just the same."

one word of warning: whenever the mood strikes them, they will present a different kind of live performance. sometimes they play two-hours of loud, balls-out rockin', other times it can be two hours of quiet, introspection.

both are great, just depends what you're in the mood for. but they are really great. enjoy!

how many folks looking forward to the end-of-year push of major hip hop releases: The Game, 2Pac, JayZ and supposedly, Nas (late december)?
aside from the Hova "comeback" which i could care less about, this is the first time in a long time i've actually made note of release dates to get those other albums.

  6. The Game's album sounds like a true west coast album. I know a lot of people here are not fans of the Game, but it is a very good sophomore album. Check out the Snoop album too. Not really looking forward to Jay-Z. I think he peaked with Reasonable Doubt, but somehow pulled a remarkable comeback with the Black Album. I'm also waiting for Talib Kweli and Mos Def, but it appears that both will be pushed back to January.

The Game's new album is a lot better than The Documentary and Untold Story, because, like West said, it has more of a West Coast feel. Sixteen tracks, and 13 different producers (two each by Just Blaze, Scott Storch and JR Rotem). Blaze KILLS the 9-plus minute track featuring Nas, "Why You Hate The Game."

Also out Tuesday is Akon's Konvicted. Excellent album, much better than his previous work. I would post my favorite tracks, but I really like almost all 13 of them (the single, "Smack That" is arguably the worst and the only one I skip).

Jay's Kingdom Come, like I posted on another thread, was a pleasant surprise. I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but as far as I'm concerned this album is comparable to The Blueprint (one of only six albums to receive a perfect rating from XXL). Three Blaze tracks, four produced by Dr. Dre, one track each by Kanye, Pharrell and Swizz Beatz. The track featuring John Legend and the track featuring Ne-Yo are definite highlights. The worst song is "Hollywood" feat. Beyonce.

As far as Snoop's Blue Carpet Treatment, the thing that bothers me is I've heard half the songs before since they were released on other artists' albums a while ago - therefore Snoop should have stayed away from putting them on his album. Makes it seem like filler. Not to say they're not good tracks, we've just all heard them before. He's got a couple new hot ones, though.

If anyone wants links for Akon, The Game, Snoop or Jay-Z, PM me.

Here's a hell of a good investment: "What It Is! Funky Soul and Rare Grooves" -- a four disc box set of rare funk tracks from 67-77. There's some amazing, obscure stuff on there -- legends like Aretha Franklin and Little Richard, tracks that Sly Stone and the Meters did under different names and all sorts of one hit wonders. It's kind of like the "Nuggets" of funk.

Of course it's dirty.. it's David Banner.... but your right... it is good.

Right now I'm going through a semi-obsession with a 'sublime-ish' band called 'Common Rider' and 'Cut Chemist' is one of my new favs.

Love the new John Legend. Haven't heard all of Beck's CD, but the songs I have heard I like. And I love MCR's new single. The video is awesome, too.

glad to hear that about the sound of Game's album - and the super remix of Okay/One Blood is nice, though i'm not a fan of Jim Jones or Ja Rule. (chi-town radio stations were saying Game's going to go overboard with remixes of just females, and then one for the west, midwest, south and east).

I'm a huge fan of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, though I never check their release dates since they always seemed to get pushed back. It's unfortunate that guys like that don't move the units they deserve.

as for Snoop - i bought Last Meal because he had a bit of an edge since he was officially done paying Suge Knight, and the last one before that was Doggfather. Dude is tired.

Jay Z - I give him all the credit in the world for trying to branch out and make that money - but I never liked him. (confession: I do own the Grey Album though, just because that's the best mashup i've heard.)

Oh, how I love Jay-Z. Though I don't get the first single at all. I've spent a month trying to find the beat, and I can't do it.
