Speaking of Phil Spector, Amazon is selling the Back to Mono box set for 13 bucks. That's 83 percent off the original price of $75, which I splurged on when it came out. Mighty good stuff. And not so ridiculously pricey.

The released performance is indeed from CW Post College Dec. 12, 1975.
However the Dec. 2, 1975 performance was the first since a handful of performances since Dec. 1973. Can't pinpoint an exact first performance, but the earliest mention of a performance of it is Dec. 20, 1973 at the Bristol (RI) Motor Inn, where he was playing as part of an official event sponsored by Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI.
Found out this first performance tidbit from the Brucebase link on the excellent Brucebase website, which is at:
    http://www.brucebase.org.uk
(since its a site based in the uk, it takes a little getting used to the date/month/year format for the dates)

  5. He was playing the Bristol Motor Inn in 1973?
Jesus, he really did need Born To Run to hit, didn't he?

I'm late on this, but I'm freaking loving the Bloc Party album. Banquet and This Modern Love are great songs.

jones, if you like the album, i highly suggest going to www.npr.org/programs/asc and listening their show from summer 05 at 9:30. talk about impressive. this modern love and pioneers kick into fucking overdrive. and i feel so here we are is much superior live than on the album version.

i've been into BP for a while, and i was excited to hear they were touring this fall, until i heard they were 1) playing with panic at the disco 2) playing arenas 3) charging $40 per ticket. then i heard they cancelled their tour because matt tong hurt one of his lungs. so i didn't feel so bad, but i did feel bad for matt.

Here's a nice little band from Spain called The Winnerys. They sound like The Beatles!

it's one thing to be able to do a diss song, it's another to be lyrical. Lupe Fiasco, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem and many more would kill Game should they ever square up in a battle. 50 and the G Unit boys are easy prey (like Ja Rule was for 50) because they aren't "lyricists."

That said - he's fun to listen to because he doesn't shy away from what he does. I'm a fan of so-called "gangsta rap" and he's right there at the top. Part of it is because he does it well, but also because there's been a vacuum in that genre since '96. That's why 50 blew up. His first album was it...but Snoop, Cube, those dudes can't pass off as gangsta anymore. it's not their fault. but some new blood was needed to fill that void and Game is it so far.

Sounds pretty good. I didn't get "Silent Alarm" or the remix album, but I've been meaning to pick them up.
