    Hammer,

The Decemberists are amazing. They have a totally unique sound and great lyrics and after hearing The Crane Wife, I intend to purchase their entire catalog.

  2. You won't be disappointed. Colin Meloy is a great songwriter.
The Crane Wife is going to be high on my year-end list.

Love their new CD, which surprised me since I didn't really like their previous work.

And here's a fine Canadian hard rocker, Danko Jones:

Danko's "Bounce" is one of the great strip joint songs in recent years.

The Crane Wife is probably my favorite album since My Morning Jacket's Z or Spoon's Gimme Fiction. I'm probably forgetting something, but it's been a while since I've liked an album this month.

  7. Anybody get the Clipse's new album. It's being hailed as a hip-hop masterpiece, but I just don't see it. Both guys are great, great MCs. And compared to the other mainstream stuff out there, it's great. But to call it a masterpiece, I just don't get.

The lyrics aren't great, let alone good. The material is the same as their last album, and the same as any other big-name rap group. Difference is, they don't have any corny Walk It Out single or any lame trademark bark or drawl to promote it.

I've heard it compared to Nas' Illmatic or Biggie's Ready to Die. And I just don't see it. In those CDs, there was a sense of desperation and passion to the lyrics. It was a tale of survival. This just seems like a tale of drug dealing.

I'm puzzled by all of the pub that this record has received. Then XXL magazine does the unthinkable and gives the album a "XXL" rating. Maybe, I'm missing something

It's a really good album, but after I heard that The Mag gave it a perfect rating last month, I expected more. Pusha T and Malice almost didn't come out with this, but I'm glad they did. It's very solid.

Oh, and Young Jeezy's sophomore LP finally leaked today. So many people will ignore it for the same reasons they ignored his debut while others will just wonder how a guy can make another gem solely about selling white, but I must say, I've been anticipating it for many months and "The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102" doesn't disappoint. The beats, rhymes and ad-libs. So good.

If you had to choose between My Morning Jacket's "Z" and Kings of Leon's "Aha Shake Heartbreak" and you loved their first albums equally, which one would you choose?

I tried my damndest to like Aha Shake Heartbreak, but it just wouldn't happen for me. I've heard a bunch of live MMJ stuff and it really works for me.

    But that's my taste ...
