i wouldn't say wilco is getting more jam-bandish. their leanings are more experimental. think sonic youth and yo la tengo performing live.

Let me add my vote for Dan Bern's "Breathe" being one of the best of 2006. Just got my copy yesterday - great disc. Like someone else posted here earlier, its a return to classic Dan lyrically and musically.

i'm guessing you meant the heartless bastards -- all this time

and a nice pick at that

was really a down year for me

heartless bastards would be on there for me, as would the dbt, the twilight singers, and, well, i dunno. not a lot hit me hard this year

next year, new wilco, and the summers kiss records afghan whigs tribute is gonna be awesome. just awesome.

I can't wait for the new Wilco. Used some gift card money to spruce up my collection of old Wilco ... picked up A.M. and Being There. Love both, of course.

Being There has held up incredibly well over the past decade. I might be in the minority on this, but I still enjoy that album as much as I do YHF and AGIB.

Oh, and EStreet, glad to hear you finally got the new Dan Bern. If you think you liked it after one day, just wait a while. It's one of those that keeps growing on you.

Glad to hear the new Dan Bern will keep growing on me.

On the other hand, I'm one of those people in the Son Volt camp who hasn't been able to get into Wilco (didn't care for Summerteeth or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I'm hoping Jay Ferrar manages to get some of the original Son Volt back together for a new album.

For 2007 I'm already looking forward to new albums from Joe Ely, Rod Picott, Tift Merritt, Terri Hendrix, and if the rumors are true --Bruce Springsteen.

  12. There is a Son Volt album coming out next spring, March maybe?
It's still "One Volt," no Boquists, no Heidorn.
I did enjoy "Okemah" more than Jay's solo record.

Joe, have you listened to "Being There." You might like it, not much like "Summerteeth" or "YHF." Very much a Stonesy, bluesy rock record.
