Just started hearing Jay Farrar's voice on XM the other day ... fronting a band called Gob Iron. (Don't know if it's just a side project or what.) Sounded pretty good from the limited airplay I've heard.

    Any info?

BTW, Reckless Kelly kicks it. Ragweed almost as much.

Oh yeah, Young Jeezy - The Inspiration is on that list too. Jeah!!!

  3. Yeah, Gob Iron is a project of Farrar and Anders Parker, who is probably best known for the band Varnaline.

I'm not a fan of Parker, but what I've heard of the Gob Iron disc has been surprisingly good.

yeah, sounds just like the 26 other records pollard released this year.

  7. have you listened to it?

actually, it sounds nothing like anything on the Keene Brothers, Psycho & the Birds, the Takeovers or the Circus Devils record

if you have an example of one song on From a Compound Eye that sounds remotely like anything else he released this year, I'd love to hear it

  8. Got a CD from someone called The Wood Brothers from my generally reliable bro-in-law.
    I like what I've heard.
Are they new or am I just way behind the curve the way I was with the DbT?

"Being There" has held up because it was Tweedy's transition from the country(ish) sounds of Uncle Tupelo into the more, for want of a better word, Americana that he makes now. Totally different album than "A.M.", and set the stage for what Wilco has become. And if you want a sense of what Wilco's like in concert, get "Kicking Television." The version of "At Least That's What You Said" on there kills the version on "A Ghost Is Born."

dude, pollard's been writing the same three songs for the past 10 years.

  11. dude, in other words ... "No, I haven't heard it, but I like deciding whether or not I like something based on what I assume it sounds like or what somebody else said - not whether I actually spent any time listening to it."

    you're cool, dude
