Thanks for the tip. I didn't realize he was going to be playing G-Pac and I'll probably make the show now.

anyone who went to college in the south in the late 80s-early 90s ever get nostalgic for the connells or drivin' n cryin'? (or the north, for that matter, tho it was really hard to ignore them in the south.) been on a kick lately where i've been listening to a lot of them. ah, those were the days.

I've never heard of either of those, Franklin, and I went to Kentucky.

That being said, why didn't Ludacris just name his new song "Runaway Love (Brenda's Got A Baby '06)"

The more spins I give the My Chemical Romance disc, the more I like it. They really made a nice leap musically from "Three Cheers" to "The Black Parade" without losing the core of who they really are. Just an excellent listen all the way through ...

Drivin' N' Cryin' had a track on the latest Oxford American music issue CD. They put "I'm Going Straight to Hell" on there and I've had a hankerin' for some more ever since. Haven't ponied up on iTunes to follow through, though. The accompanying article was interesting, too.

You just made my day, Franklin. The Connells' "Ring" is almost certainly one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I was in college during the height of their so-called popularity. And yet despite all of that, I had never met or heard of another Connells fan until your post.

For some reason, they never really caught on in my area. I remember going to a record store and buying the last copy of a Connells CD -- not because they had sold a bunch of them, but because they only bothered to keep one in stock. And this was in a great town for music. I never understood why they didn't catch on. But at least two or three times a year, I listen to "Ring" from start to finish, singing along with every word, and loving the hell out of it.

OK, if we're going to talk about Southern college rock bands from the late 1980s-early 1990s, who else wants to give Dash Rip Rock some props? Talk about a really good, fun live band. Just imagine CCR on crack cocaine.

all of their early stuff is out of print and not on itunes, so it's like 30 bones for a used copy of fun and games, which is a great, great record.

never heard dash rip rock. CCR on crack is something i'd definitely like to hear, tho.

I am looking for some new bands to listen to.
So I come here for help.
I generally listen to classic rock (ie. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and The Doors), though I also like Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
The only "new" band I listen to is Cold Play (and spare me with all of the posts about how I am a fag for listening to them, we've been over that).
    So, anyone have any suggestions?

Check out some bands out of these bands that fly below the music radar of some people and let us know what you think:
Old 97s - great rock band out of Texas
Waco Brothers - one critic referred to their early work as "Cash meets Clash" (especially their Cowboy in Flames disc) and but they've also rocked pretty hard over the years
Refreshments - no longer around, but put out two great rock albums in the late 90s
Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers - Refreshments lead singer/songwriter with a new band that includes Refreshments drummer PH Naffah
Pistoleros - great rockin' band out of Arizona that is sadly no longer around. Those that have heard of and like Roger Clyne/Refreshments and the Gin Blossoms will love this band that's no longer around if they haven't heard of them
Blasters - Another band that is sadly no longer around, but their sound can best be described as rockabilly punk
Last Hombres - A band that put out an album two years ago and then broke up. If you like a Greatful Dead/Band sound, check them out. The Band's Levon Helm was their drummer on their lone disc - Redemption.
Los Lonely Boys - They call their style a musical burrito because they wrap up so many influences into one disc. Their first disc was a great collection of music.

EStreet - Thanks. I think the Old 97s were featured in the movie The Breakup that I was forced to watch recently. They sounded pretty cool on there.
