Are there any fans of the Dixie Dregs on SportsJournalists.com?

  2. i wouldn't say I;m a Kweli dickrider, but this EP is fire. Not sure when his album is going to drop, but this is solid.

Never got in to either of those bands, but a cover band I used to see did Straiight to Hell, or whatever the name is. I always liked that song.

    Sirs, Madames,

Trying to work my way through year-end recommended list items.

    Lately:

Tom Waits's 3-disc thing. (Pretty cool on Brawlers)
Raconteurs (less than I hoped for, and I am completely a White Stripes type)
Thom Yorke's The Eraser (has moments, I wish it were The Bends tho')
Arctic Monkeys (I dunno, I missed it)
Cat Power The Greatest (truth in advertising)

    YHS, etc

I'm finally getting into the "new" Cold Play CD and I must say, besides my early favorite songs of 'Swallowed in the Sea' and 'Till Kingdom Come', 'What If' is a fantastic song.

You know how I know you're gay. You listen to Coldplay!

Seriously, I liked their first two albums, the last one was kind of boring.

Two seemingly unlikely partners in the recently most played:

DeVotchKa, "How It Ends." Hard to describe, except that it makes me really sad. Seven minutes long. Was in the trailer for "Everything is Illuminated," and the band also did the soundtrack for "Little Miss Sunshine," and there's an instrumental version of the song played throughout that film. Beautiful.

Rise Against, "Prayer of the Refugee." This song kicks significant ass.

I've jocked the Silversun Pickups before here ... picked up their newest record today and damn, it's really good.

Picked up a couple CD's -- remember them -- the other night...

Tahiti 80, "Fosbury" - Fun "indie" dance pop/soul

Tokyo Police Club, "A Lesson In Crime"- Mix of the Strokes and Editors, and a really quick listen: The album's only about 20 minutes.

Albert Hammond, Jr., "Yours To Keep" -- Doesn't sound anything like the Strokes' stuff. Surprisingly mellow.

Mastodon, "Blood Mountain" - This has been out a while but for whatever reason, I held off buying it. Bad move. Thought this was going to bust the windows in the car when I cranked it up. GREAT metal album.

With my infrequent posts on this thread, I've revealed my love of Tom Petty's music.

After finally having played Highway Companion out of my car, I decided I needed to come back to some older Petty.

I knew Wildflowers was an incredible album, but only now just did realize, while going back through and remembering so many of the lyrics, what an awesome lyric writer Petty can be. This one's going to be stuck in the CD player for a while as well.

Until I get a fix for some metal! :p
