BTW, the best thing about Webb Wilder was their credo.

Meanwhile, I'd like to think you know of The The. But you might not know of the band (Matt Johnson's) amazing album full of Hank Williams covers, called Hanky Panky.

Without reading the thread, anyone mention The Rainmakers? Mildly popular midwest '80s band.

The video for "I Saw The Light" is crazy with Johnson strutting around on the Chrysler Building gargoyles way the fuck up in the sky. Love that album.

Great choice. I actually have their mid/late 80s album (the one with "Government Cheese" on it) somewhere in my bin of LPs. You could find it at the obligatory college town record stores that dotted the Midwest in the early 1990s.

I never listen to the radio for music anymore. It's either talk radio or my iPod in the car. So the main way I get new artists in my playlist is if I really like a song from a movie.

This song from the movie "Enough Said" (James Gandolfini's last flick, I think) turned me onto Neil Halstead. The album this song is from is really good.

I never heard of the Vulgar Boatmen when they were current. Wish I had.
I got onto them from Sound Opinions:

Wow. I liked their sound three seconds into that track.

I looked them up, and they're from Gainesville. Same as Petty and Sister Hazel.

And the Vulgar Boatmen remind me of The Gufs, a Milwaukee band from the late 80s and early 90s. They got a small bit of national notice but didn't stick it out long enough. Their first three discs had a lot of really good stuff on them, but I can't find a whole lot on YouTube.

Man, that's a great song, thanks for putting it up. Dig the band name too.
