jones, man, your piece on comiskey in shanghai is ... great. the scam vignette read straight out of a gripping hollywood thriller, and if ever there was a chapter 14 of steinbeck's cannery row, the "on its worst days" vignette is it.

you are in a zone, dude. thanks.

forgot to mention it but the comiskey guy whose life and times jones narrated is the one who thought up the e-ink idea for this historic cover.

    Good point on GQ.

I love FourFourTwo. I've only seen a couple copies at the Borders by work -- and bought only the one with the Arsene Wenger interview -- but it's a comprehensive read.

I'll reiterate my fondness for Smart Money. If you're going to subscribe to one personal finance magazine, this is the one: well-written articles on pertinent matters that -- while written to an affluent audience to a certain extent -- are not condescending or simplistic (like Money), aren't right-wing (like Forbes) and aren't all over the place (like Fortune).

The magazine always has 3-4 informative articles that are well-written and insightful.

matt taibbi wrote a taibbi'esque piece bootsing rove. he could've written 20,000 more words on the evil conniver, and it would've sung all the way through.

a.j. jacobs wrote a great (and funny) piece about the brain in the halle-covered Esquire. i sigged his ideal, but the funniest line is about the monkey losing control of the elephant in relation to the moment he decides to play the nazi card.

Did anybody get their new Esquire (Halle front)? If you did, I need some help, if you don't mind.

FourFourTwo has fallen off a lot in the past three years, that said I've got a subscription for $39 a year.

I'd suggest asking these folks for a discount rate: subs@britmags.com.
