  1. Is it pronounced "toon?"

When I get an attitude for mispronouncing it, then I get a little ticked.

But I am for freedom of choice across the board, so I am being a hypocrite for arguing against individual spellings.

That said, my daughter has a traditional spelling.

It's actually pronounced "whatevering." I just haven't told anyone.

As an aside, I actually pronounce my last name differently than any of my family before me, so of course my kids do now, too, so at least the southern part of the family has one pronunciation, and everybody else has another.

We just find our way easier to say.

  5. Yeah? Well too damn bad. I'm sticking with "toon"

One of my former writers used to shorten "ie" names on older people. Ronnie became Ron, etc.
I asked him once if the guy told him to do that.
    No.
Then, uh, why did you do that?
Well, Ronnie is a kid's name. He's an adult now. He should go by Ron.
Not your call. He wants to go by Laura, he can go by Laura. He wants to go by Ronnie, he can go by Ronnie.
And he can spell it however he wants.

So should I just call you Mod from now on?

  8. It does sound more distinguished.

When I grow up and become an adult, you can call me Mod.

I have encountered that, and that can piss me off.

Feel free to pronounce your daughter Sarah as sa-REE, but don't look at ME like I'm an idiot for saying SAR-ah the first time.

My former reporter actually pronounces his last name two different ways. I asked him about it and he said either pronunciation is acceptable.

I agree, but I am typing about spelling a child's name from birth completely different than what is taught in every reading program in this country.

Chone Figgins is the perfect example. This girl probably was not the best example.
