I think in the case you mentioned, I'd go with Ronnie. That's how he's known in NFL history.

    Disagree. Your way is wordier.

Is there any precedent for this? Babe Ruth to George Herman Ruth? EarvinJohnson?

I wouldn't want to give Ronnie the finger on this.

Your last example would suck, especially since he spells it Earvin.

You know, I didn't feel like looking it up either.

    I will fix it.

re "treys" and "3-pointers": If you're avoiding the use of those two terms because you consider them jargon, you're thinking too darn much. They're recognizable, they fit into the flow of a sentence, they bring the point across.

    "Both" sucks and is unnecessary.

"Both Jones and Smith were 2-under par Friday."

"Johnson coached both Jones and Smith before they teed off Friday."

It appears in copy way too often.

Oh, I forgot, four words that aren't necessary 90 percent of the time, often appearing together:

    "so far this season"

And Shottie, I ain't a big "trey" fan, but to each his own.

See? That's what we're talking about.

The words "well done" were totally superfluous. ;)
