Could not agree more. It will get old fast if each Jemele original is run through the sj analysis machine.

"Jemele nailed it" , "No she didn't dipshit"

Just a suggestion, Tom. I'm sure you'll continue to do whatever you like, as it your right. I'm not sure why you're so bummed. It's not like I proposed a moratorium on fat jokes about Whitlock. I can see why THAT might upset you, since, far as I can tell, you might otherwise struggle to have something to say.

Anyway, everyone with blue eyes line up on the left. My assistant will be around shortly, handing out hemlock, it seems.

I think if we're going to choose to bar certain topics, I'd like to submit my list for consideration:

    (1) All threads that accuse athletes of steroid use without concrete proof. That should eliminate a good swath right there.

    (2) All threads about "Who should (fill in name) date/f***?"

    (3) All threads about obscure musical groups. If the group hasn't at least gone gold with an album, we should NEVER hear about it.

so, before i sign on to this, does that mean ABBA is on the good side, or bad side of disbarment?

Um, half are started by those for her, half against her. And on a journalism message board, banning topics is a horrible idea. It's just as bad as when editors ban them.

What about other columnists? Don't they deserve equal time?

Start threads on them, then. It's fun and easy, and anyone can do it.

no dude. free speach means you talk about whatever interests you ... hence, there's no preset agenda.

Haven't you heard? Everything must be on a Running Thread. You can't just have people starting threads willy-nilly, what do you want this to become, a message board??

If we stopped all threads about Jemele's work, then where else would she know how important she is in our lives?

Oh lord. This is hardly a free speech issue. I just think it would be nice to quit giving the same jerks a forum week after week to make the same mean-spirited comments. A little break from this subject would do us all some good. She's not my friend, but she's a friend of a friend. And at some point, it's overkill. To have this same thread, week after week, is just sad. I don't want the subject "banned," really. We ought to be able to talk about actual journalism, after all, instead of just critiquing the movies we watch and rating the strapless number that Bonnie Bernstein wore to the Downtown Athletic Club. But can't we at least debate the merits of Selena Roberts or something? I like being here. I like posting here. I've met a lot of good people here. And it bums me out that we continue to feed the perception out there that this site is full of jealous hacks (which it, for the most part, is not) because the only black female columnist in the country just so happens to need a weekly thread critiquing her work, and some people use that forum to rip her or praise her ad nauseam. Meanwhile, Terry Pluto admits to having a porn addiction in a column (not a blog, a column) and that thread gets immediately deleted.

I think I'll just walk away from this. I'm obviously not changing anyone's mind.

Forget sports being the new politics. Jemele Hill is the new politics.
