See, this outlook, I do not get.

Saying this would indicate that nobody noticed golf BEFORE Tiger Woods, and that's bullshit. Nicklaus. Palmer. Trevino. Player. Watson. Johnny Miller. C'mon.

And you obviously haven't allowed yourself to imagine what it's going to be like if McIlroy would, say, win 2-3 majors next year.

IF you're saying the PGA will lose its bandwagon-jumpers when Woods leaves, you may have something. But the PGA will remain in the second tier of major sports, right behind the big four.

People noticed golf before Tiger. But he and golf became a worldwide sensation while Tiger won 14 majors. Good heavens, were some of you not alive in 2000? He had it all -- the game, the money, the marketing. Then lost it all. Darn right his comeback is still a story, and it's going to be for quite a while. Without him, pro golf is very healthy but, yeah, Tiger's the rock star. That's not going to change anytime soon.

What part of the ongoing soap opera did you expect to see this week? Tiger and 75 other guys showed up and played four rounds of golf. That's all.

The caddie angle, though golf-insidery, is pretty unique for this week. The continuing shrinkage of Tiger's circle is pretty amazing. I don't know if you can count his friends on more than one hand anymore.

That's typical. Remember those Kobe vs Shaq games. Everyone covered them like it was some big deal, but what actually happened?

So, he had nothing to do with Tiger's success? Interesting.

He may be a jerk. But he earned his money. And he quickly hooked on with another top golfer, which tells me those in his profession appreciate his work.

Meanwhile, Tiger and his current caddy fade into the distance as the tournameny goes on.

Well, it sounds like you're giving the caddy a little too much credence.

Not sure I can agree with that, Shot.

Greg Norman had Steve Williams on his bag, fired him about a year later and tried to rehire him some years down the road, essentially acknowledging that he shouldn't have gotten rid of him.

Ask Gary Player about "Rabbit" (Alfred Dyer). Ask Phil Mickelson about "Bones." Ask Jack Nicklaus about Angelo Argea. Ask Fred Couples about Joe LaCava. And ask Tom Watson how much he misses Bruce Edwards.

The caddies may not win the tournaments with the clubs in their hands. But a bad one doesn't help any player's cause.

This guy would have missed the best round of his life if Carl Spackler hadn't told him the heavy stuff wouldn't come down for quite a while.

Whoops, looks like Carl prefers the Dalai Lama story. Sorry, Carl. ;)

Poor Scott. Shoots a 62 and is overshadowed by Tiger in the first round. Could win the damn thing and be the first golfer in history overshadowed in victory by his own caddie. And then he fires Williams for having too much of the spotlight.
