NASCAR running thread

FWIW, in the midst of a title battle there were no posts in this thread for nearly a month until Gordon lost his mind. NASCAR's credibility has long been a joke, but even more after today. Only a few drivers could have done what Gordon did Sunday and gotten away with it. Two of them drive for Hendrick, while another drives for a satelite Hendrick outfit.
I remember about 10 years ago Harvick supposedly said over the radio he was going to wreck someone in a truck race at Martinsville. Harvick did indeed wreck the driver at NASCAR's slowest track and was parked the rest of the weekend. From what I read about Sunday's deal, Gordon hit the wall, was shedding parts and was black flagged, then turned Bowyer hard head-on into the wall, wrecking two other cars as well. He came right out and said he did it on purpose. Yet the only penalty is financial, something he'll more than make up for next weekend?
Since Gordon got away with it, he might as well take out Keslowski early at Homestead. What's NASCAR going to do, park him for the rest of the year in the final race of the year?
I guess NASCAR leaders were jealous of the idiocy in IndyCar and wanted to prove they are indeed the dumbest racing officials in this country.

If they were that dumb they'd have thrown a debris caution today in the final laps. Have to believe Bowyer would have loved to have a chance to introduce Gordon to the wall rather that finish an honorable second. And can you imagine the publicity storm that would have ensued?

Congratulations to Penske. He certainly deserves to have a Cup championship on his list of accomplishments.

Pretty shocking to see Johnson blow his chance on a bad pit stop, though it was all moot anyway after he done broke a rear gear.

Great line in Jenna Fryer's story:

Why is that a great line? He was a 25-year-old with consecutive third-place points finishes in Nationwide Series and a Cup win when he got his first full-time ride for at best the No. 4 owner in Cup. He took over a car David Stremme had driven without a full-time sponsor the year before.

    I'm calling bullshit.

Anyone else find it mildly entertaining and humorous Keselowski won a Cup title before his one-time mentor?
A friend posted a link to Keselowski's buzzed interview on SportsCenter last night. Holy crap that was entertaining. Taking swigs of Miller Lite between questions from a huge glass and admitting he was a bit buzzed was hilarious.

    Got to agree with this.

"Penske material" isn't in the resume. It's in the character.

Brad came into NASCAR ruffling ALL kinds of feathers, which is not the way Penske does business. At all. It's why Kurt doesn't drive there any more. He LOVES Hornish, who is a great guy but not one to be grabbing tabloid headlines.

    Keselowski was a badass.

Keselowski isn't in the same universe of douchebaggery as Kurt Busch.

Brash, yes. Willing to cause a 15-car wreck at Talladega on the last lap, yes. But not a complete, utter tool.

As wicked points out, Kurt Busch was on the Penske roster. I still stake my claim to that line being bullshit.
