Texas is doing away with the tradition of having the race winners shoot firearms off (with blanks, obviously) in victory lane after the race.

Seems some of the more influential team sponsors vehemently objected to the possibility of seeing their drivers brandishing guns, especially after Sandy Hook.

    The NRA race sponsorship?

Mostly a publicity stunt, although I'm sure the NRA is paying top dollar.

But this is a classic ginned-up controversy straight out of the Bruton Smith-Humpy Wheeler playbook.

Even though Humpy is long since gone from Bruton's empire, he taught TMS President Eddie Gossage well.

I'm pro-gun and I totally agree with this.

Yeah, weapons and stadiums - unless they're being carried by members of law-enforcement - are something that don't mix well.

  4. Listening to the Nationwide race today and Denny Hamlin said he dropped his appeal of the $25K levied against him last week for speaking out on the Gen 6 car.
Said he wanted to put it behind him and it wasn't worth $25K.

Sounds like Brian France's henchmen got to him.

Bristol continues to be half full. The chickens truly have come home to roost.

Incredibly light crowd. I know the nite race is the bigger deal, but that almost looked like a Nationwide crowd.

Didn't the races at California used to be boring?

Tony Stewart punches out Logano, then drops an F-bomb filled tirade on live TV ... Kyle Busch steals a win while Logano and Hamlin are racing for the lead ... and Denny Hamlin collapses after getting out of the car following a brutal hit to the inside wall, is taken off on a backboard and put in an ambulance.
Wild stuff in the last few laps.

    That's how races should end!

With any luck, Logano is going to find himself finishing the next few races with a crumpled car on the trailer. I never have liked that little prick, and he's been full of himself this year. I wish Stewart would have gotten in another lick or two.

  10. Wow!

    Hell of a finish.

Logano is a little prick. I don't blame him for blocking Smoke, but I think he drove Hamlin into the outer wall when he didn't have to.

Hope Hamlin is OK. Nasty lick into the inner wall.

I can't stand stand Rowdy - the guy you love to hate - but that was awesome; him cruising through the outside past Logano and Hamlin.

    With drivers on backboards? Great.
