I am not sure of the pecking order on a Sprint Cup team, but those sound like the people who would be front and center in any attempt to push the boundaries of the technology/rules.

Yeah, they certainly hammered everybody who might've had a hand in it. I think they might be getting tired of people breaking the rules and are going to keep throwing out punishments like these until the point gets made.

Anyone keep up with racintoday.com? That site used to be jumping with all the old timers writing columns and coverage. Now it's almost a ghost town. I wonder if the economic realities of trying to cover something without financial backing caught up with them or what.

If so, that is a real shame. That's where all the real NASCAR writers that had been put out to pasture landed. Not having their voice is a loss.

It's been one of my go-to racing sites since it started, because it covered a variety of racing. I always wondered how it could keep going and financially support the number of writers utilized. Maybe this is the answer. I think the last time I checked it was Thursday: one of the top stories, if not the top story, was a press release about the Richmond Cup race.

Nationwide version of the Talladega free for all about to get underway. They've reduced the length by 10 laps and by the time it's green, there will be about 7 to go. 18 are on the lead lap.

I wonder if green-white-checkered still applies under the circumstances? I'm sure there will be another wreck within three laps.

I heard Barney Hall back on MRN this afternoon. Good to hear his voice, but you can tell he's weaker. Is he cutting back more on his schedule, or has he been sick? Did a Google and didn't see an answer.

What a crazy finish, Regan Smith was just declared the winner. Hope everyone's OK.

It was cool seeing the sparks come off the cars at the end there, as dusk settled, although I bet it wasn't all that comfortable for the drivers.

Most of their stories now have a by line that says Info Manager or something. There used to be some really great features and columns by Woody, Minter, Harris, etc. Not now. I really hate it. In your words, it was my "go to" web site.

Just got back from my annual trip. Spent more time watching them dry the track than I did watching cars going fast/turning left. Cannot believe they waited all afternoon Sunday to get the rest of that race in. My seats are just past the apex of the tri-oval, and when that second cell hit lightning popped over near the backside and my friend and I got the hell out of there. We walked over to the Turn 4 exits and by the time we walked through the gates it was pouring. Unbelievable that: A) they were able to even get the track dried; and B) they decided to give it a go.

Posted these on the random images thread, but thought it was worth putting here, too. Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse apparently got roped by their sponsors into judging some odd camp decoration contest in the infield at Talladega. A rather memorable date night ensued, followed by a round of angry phone calls to their agents.
    This guy was the winner:
