Long time, no read. Tire issues marring the day at Bristol. Nationwide teams apparently going to last year's tires for the race, but will practice and qualify on this year's.

    This should be interesting.

Viewed from above, you can tell where Danica is at any given moment when she's walking through the pits. Just look for the bee swarm of people.

Will anyone actually call out Goodyear? Seems to me they get a free pass for tire issues far too often. With the exception of Indy a couple years back, since the issue was so obvious and race-altering, widespread criticism just doesn't happen. This year in the Cup race at Vegas, were there not four or five tire failures? The TV honks just said the driver "cut down a tire", and after multiple instances it was just an accepted thing. Blame easily shifted to camber, load, whatever. Not even the faintest thought that Goodyears are sometimes junk.

Compare this to Firestone in IndyCar racing, which hasn't had a tire failure in nearly 20 years.

Tony Stewart will call out Goodyear. But Tony Stewart has a bit of a temper problem (see: the first post of this thread), so that probably won't carry much weight.

Just back fr/ the annual trip to Bristol. I know NASCAR pads their attendance numbers these days...but 120K!?!? From my seat (right above start / finish), I could see the the seating from turn 1, all the way around to turn 4. I didn't see a single row, more than 25% full. I'm sure they packed the front stretch a bit tighter, but no way there were 100K in the place. Closer to 80K, is my guess.

Too bad, folks missed a great day. Weather was perfect. Not sure how it translated to TV, but the racing (particularly in the pack) was very competitive. I'm sure there's folks that miss the old one groove track (along with the associated wrecking), but I'm not one of them.

Always wanted to go to Bristol. Hopefully someday. The wife and I got our Talladega tickets in the mail Saturday looking forward to my first trip there. Anyone who has gone there have any tips for a first timer?

Don't go into the infield unless you're armed ... :)

I swear there used to be a sign once you entered the main tunnel at Talladega that said, "Discharging of firearms after midnight is strictly prohibited."

Not sure how big of a race fan you are, but I'd hit up the Talladega Short Track across the street either Friday or Saturday night.
The racing is always good and the people watching is first rate.

If there are swaths of empty seats for the Bristol nite race I'll really be surprised, but this was pretty shocking nonetheless. That place was bulletproof from attendance issues for a darned long time.

Whether you're an Earnhardt fan or not, having some Earnhardt gear (Jr. or Sr.) with you probably wouldn't be a bad thing in terms of safety. ;) ;D

Are you saying wearing my Montoya gear is NOT recommended? :)
