"Hopelessly vague" brings to mind the phrase "actions detrimental to stock car racing."

Want to know what's detrimental to stock car racing? 9,000 commercials. Cars that won't allow passing. Racing twice a year at Pocono. The list goes on and on.

Don't forget Tyler Walker, who apparently still hasn't grown the fuck up:

He also covered himself in glory by tearing his knee up trying to do a Carl Edwards-style backflip after winning a race a few years ago.

So NASCAR effectively ruined AJ's career without even having the B sample checked? AJ was already struggling this year, driving for a sponsor needing a squeaky clean driver after what happened with Kurt Busch. Even if NASCAR admits a goof at this point, will Shell/Pennzoil still want to sponsor AJ?

They can't check the 'B' sample until he asks them to.

If NASCAR screwed up the test, Allmendinger probably becomes a bigger hero to a lot of fans than he ever would have been before. Depending on how he spins it, he can become the guy who got screwed over by the system and was wrongly accused of something he didn't do; he comes off as awfully sympathetic in that case and has a little bit of the "common man fighting the man" appeal as well.

And then we'll see if the common fan, many of whom think themselves the common (wo)man, will hold NASCAR accountable.

An NBA beat writer compared NASCAR to the NBA as to how this is perceived ... and I agree:

10 minutes into pre-race show, TNT acknowledges elephant in room. Guarantee comparable story gets different play on TNT's NBA show.

That did not end well for Tim Richmond, albeit in much different circumstances.

Did the B sample make it to Kinkos on time, or is it stuck in some guy's fridge?

I didn't know they ran at Pocono in December.
