Nashville Predators moving to Canada? NOPE! Sorry, Canucks (and KC!)...

And the New Jersey Devils will always be the Kansas City Scouts.

So many fans (estimated to be 2,000-3,000 season ticket holders) that they even have a name and jerseys -- the Pred-Wings!

Here's a story from the Tennessean a few years back:

As if "Pred-wings" weren't bad enough, the youth hockey team also has a terrible name: The Nashville Child Predators.

Tell me, and Chris Hansen, this cannot be true.

Actually, they were a New Jersey franchise - the Americans - before they were ever known as the New York Nets. They were based at the Armory in Teaneck, N.J., during the inaugural ABA season, 1967-68.

They moved to Commack, Long Island, in 1968 and became the New York Nets at that time.

Thanks for the history lesson and I must admit, I did forget about the stint in Teaneck. I'm sure the Isley Brothers (who performed under the Teaneck label) caught a few games.

And the Colorado Rockies. Love how people rip on KC for having the Scouts skip town, but because Colorado got a second chance when it stole the Nordiques, they get a pass on criticism.

Unless there's another on this board who can say it, I attended four years of Rockies games when the family resided in Denver. I've not ever hated the Scouts for bailing out because without the Rockies (and seeing the truly great teams that came to town when I'd go see them) I'm somewhat indebted to the KC folks. I remain a loyal Devils fan, mainly because the franchise's roots are in KC and Denver and all the success NJ has is payback for the struggles and poor ownership that caused the franchise to move from place to place. As I said earlier, I'm looking forward to attending a game in Newark this next season.

By the way, being a Rockies fan (and for that matter, I also attended Colorado Flames games, an NHL Old-Timers game and DU games) that I refuse to support the Avalanche. They're not my team. Not even close. I have seen a game at Pepsi Center and it was great to see that there were more than a few people wearing the Rockies' jersey.

Also, I did wear my Rockies jersey -- the dark blue -- on Monday at the Stanley Cup Finals and I got a lot of praise for wearing it. I like that I was in the company of intelligent hockey fans -- or maybe fans recall the Rockies fondly for so often providing their teams with many easy victories!

Long live names like Merlin Malinowski, Randy Pierce, Gary Croteau and, yes, Don Cherry, even Hardy Astrom!

Claws, Hardy was Grapes' worst nightmare.

He claimed he was the worst goalie ever to play in the NHL.

Cherry tells a story (doesn't matter if it's true).

There's a typical practice drill where one of the coaches shoots the puck at the goalie from centre ice to start the break-out drill. Just a routine shot along the ice shot.

Goalie passes the puck off to one of his defensemen to get things going.

Problem is, the coach scored on the first two dump-ins.

    Great stuff.

Oh, and Claws, I think Marty Brodeur is probably the best goalie in the NHL and I respect all their rings but man, they have to be the most boring damn team in the league.

Don't forget the Twin Cities, the Bay Area, and Atlanta in commentary. Each of them was a failed NHL market the first time around.

And each lasted way longer than two years in their first incarnations. Big difference.

That said, I'll agree Atlanta didn't deserve a second chance.
