Nashville Predators moving to Canada? NOPE! Sorry, Canucks (and KC!)...

    "irrelvance"?

    "deh"?

I guess the folks in Big Dog's trailer park have been drinking earlier than usual.

Someone on this thread, can't remember who, said they jacked up the prices to ungodly extremes for the playoffs, like $400 tickets.

It wasn't me earlier, but I'll comment now.

I think it was a number of things, including ticket prices. But the problem may have also been some corporate, in that they weren't as enthusiastic as coming to games with Yzerman and Shanahan gone.

The main reasons would probably be money. Remember Michigan is near the bottom of the 50 states in jobs, so money is tight.
And also, the Wings lost some identity with Yzerman retiring.

As far as boring style, the Wings didn't really change their style much at all from past seasons.

I will comment from the numbers that they have on Edmonton being wrong. The Oil sold out every home game last season and capacity is 16,893. Yet those numbers have the Oil averagin 16,985 and only 95 per cent capacity. something is amiss, anyways. And in regards to Nashville, everything I have heard so fr is that they had trouble getting to 14,000 when all tickets – sold and given away – were accounted for, so the 15,000+ seems a little high to me.

Also, while I don't see Winnipeg as a permanent home for the Preds, I could seem them asa a temporary host while a new building is built in KW.

Balsillie's choice is definitely Kitchener-Waterloo. It's out of either Toronto or Buffalo's area and he already has land. The question is just whether he gets approval and what he does in the interim.

    He'll get it.

He overpaid for the Preds--some say by about a $100 million so the other owners are going to kiss his ass--all of a sudden their franchises just increased in value exponentially.

    It's all about equity.

The "we lost $10 million last year" carries no weight when the value of your franchise went from $300 million to $400--and you did squat.

Or maybe Mr. Blackberry kicked in an extra $100 million because the Canadian dollar is pretty much at par with the U.S.

That sort of situation makes Canadian franchises that much more strong. I believe at the time the Jets and Nordiques left, the Canadian dollars was at 65 cents to the American dollar -- and salaries get paid in American dollars.

Little confused by this. If the Can. Dollar is pretty much on par with the Greenback, why would he kick in an extra $100 mil? Keep in mind I make enough money to keep me out of the business world forever So I'm not exactly sure how these things work.

I still have my Nordiques jersey somewhere. I'll dig it out for a Quebec City rebirth.

Las Vegas. Kansas City. Book it.

(That doesn't count whatever Balsillie does with Nashville. We're talking expansion.)

The Red Wings didn't sell out the playoff games because of the galactically astronomical prices of tickets (STANDING ROOM at $99, upper-deck nosebleeds at $140, lower bowls for $240-$270. Per Ticket), cranked up something like 40-60% from the already extravagant regular-season prices. They just kept on squeezing the udders of the cash cow, until finally the poor beast passed out from the pain.
