Because it gives him a better return on investment. Paying the extra money is worth it if he isn't paying players 35 percent more than a U.S. team would. That's what happened when the Canadian dollar sank against the greenback -- team collected loonies at the gate, but had to pay in U.S. dollars to their players. So a $1 million salary for a player on a U.S.-based team was now $1.35 million.

Economists predict that the loonie and the U.S dollar will be at par by the fall.

Ummm, am sure the Ilitch family greed and soaking fans for ticket prices might have had a teensy bit to do with it...

And the year before they moved to Colorado, the Nordiques had the second-most points in the league behind Detroit (although it was a strike-shortened season). So the wheels were in motion for a successful franchise before that move.

They should have the Stastny Brothers drop the ceremonial first puck if that happens.

Sounds exactly like Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment---well, if the Leafs actually mae the playoffs. And then people would be lined up to pay $500.00 a pop.

Nah. Marc Tardif and Buddy Cloutier.

Better yet - Richard Brodeur. He was a Nord for all seven years of the WHA.

There is only one way I will accept the reborn Nords.

And that is if they wear these sweaters:

    Road

Actually, the way the NHL does things now, the blue would be home and the white woul be away.

Next season, the league is going back to home whites and dark sweaters on the road.

Outstanding... nothin finer than the LEafs home white --- if they can't play good, might as well look it

It was better with the white letters on white for the players' names. Further, I think I heard the Leafs might tweak it with the new sweater designs next year - maybe change the Leaf from the Ballard era one back to the more leafy version.

Great news. I know the dark jerseys at home work for most NFL teams, but it only confused me in hockey.
