Nashville Predators moving to Canada? NOPE! Sorry, Canucks (and KC!)...

The latest I read is that it is a snag but Balsille is optimistic the deal will still go through if the deal is finalized.

Reportedly, the team might be headed to Kansas City. That would be a long commute for those folks in Hamilton who bought tickets. :)</a>

Is Bettman the most incompetent commissioner in the history of sports?

He's clearly the worst of the four major sports, and that says something that he's worst than Selig.

He certainly has the resume to be considered for it.

I was told earlier today that a radio discussion in Kansas City (810?) had a guy claiming he knew back in December from a source that Nashville to K.C. was a done deal. By that time, they had even decided upon the name KC Monarchs.

Which means ... the Pittsburgh thing was a ploy to drum up support for the Penguins.

And Bettman is constantly throwing curveballs at Balsillie.

Okay, finally, I've had enough of this story.

Look beyond the fan base for a moment. What makes people think a team in Hamilton will work?

Canada's population is roughly 30 million (or the same as ALL OF CALIFORNIA). Sure, we Canadians (supposedly) all love hockey. But this is no longer a gate-driven league. It is, sadly, a failing corporate driven league.

Sure, Hamilton would sell out every game, without question. However, ticket sales alone won't sustain an NHL team. Teams need corporate sponsorship, a TV deal, radio deal, etc.

I mean, seriously, how many rink boards can Tim Hortons buy in Canada? There is little corporate money in Canada - Hamilton for that matter - when compared to cities in the USA.

And don't think for a second it would work in Winnipeg. Name the heavy-hitting, big-spending corporations in Winnipeg and Manitoba.

Is TSN or Sportsnet - or CBC for that matter - going to cut their Leafs/Habs and Sens games from the schedule in favour of the Hamilton Predators? I doubt it.

Stop thinking with your hearts my fellow Canucks and start using your heads.

Yes, but isn't there a lot of corporate presence in the K-W area? Plus, aren't there enough national advertisers who would buy in as well?

I mean, it's not like KC is Manhattan West when it comes to big corporate HQs. Obviously, there's Sprint, though it's not headquartered there anymore.

Example: Bell is Canada's No. 1 phone service provider. They have pretty much a monopoly in this country (sure, Rogers, Telus and a couple others are cropping up) but Bell pales in comparison to Sprint. And, since it is a near-monopoly, why does Bell they need to advertise. What do they gain?

As for KC not being Manhattan, true. But what TV network there would have to slash an established product from its airwaves to make room for the Predators/Monarchs?

EDIT: Assuming the cap is $48 million US, that's nearly $51 million CAN. Three million dollars is a lot of money any way you slice it.

You've got to be kidding me about Telus just creeping up. The are basically a monopoly in Western Canada.
The 6 Canadian teams make up 40 % of league revenues.
The NHL is the only sport in the world that has only 1 team in it's biggest money making market. Your telling me 3 teams in metropolitan New York and 1 in Southern Ontario makes sense.
If for no other reason it would be nice to see a team in that area win a cup before the Leafs.
What about the waiting list for Leaf season tickets and corporate boxes you don't think they would support another team.
Canada is not the poor 3rd world country you're making it out to be

That's the kind of thinking that gives this story life in Canada and keeps fans hoping it will happen.

And yes, I'm telling you three in the greater NYC area makes more sense than Toronto and Hamilton.

The US is the world's No. 1 ecomony (maybe China is now?) but Canada is ninth. And it's not even close.

Stop thinking like a fan and think like a business person.

    This will not work.

And the Leafs waiting list has nothing to do with this.

I'm not thinking like a fan at all i live out west so the leaf comment was just a dig. So your sayingyou don't think there is enough corporate support for 2 teams. I respctfully disagree. You talk about TV you don't think whichever sports network doesn't get the leafs would jump all over Hamilton?

Congrats on your baby news I just recently received the same
