Any word on whom they might hire as colleges editor?

    Bump.

I'm glad they waited to hire the editor. That would have been stupid to hire the writer and then the editor.

Isn't that a judgment call Mizzou?

Dude, that was four weeks ago and apparently they agreed with me since neither was offered the job. :D

Heard a rumor this is on hold, and there's been no news for a while. Anyone hear anything?

I've heard two different stories/rumors. One is that they're still filling it, but for much less money than the last person was getting.

The second is that they're deciding between replacing Adelson or replacing Skolnick and that they can't afford to do both.

We're halfway through college football season and Adelson left in early August, so exactly how important is this job if they let it go unfilled this far?

You ever try to fill a job? Especially these days? I'm not saying that to be snarky, honest. But it isn't as easy as you'd think.

That three of the four openings they had are already filled is pretty damn good and I suspect - though I don't know - that this one will be filled eventually.

Lots of jobs to fill and that whole merger/combined sections thing on top of it. Hiring the editor first was a good idea because some of the candidates may want to know who will be their supervisor.

Money could be a factor indeed. I don't know the pay range. We've already discussed the relo thing, either on this thread or another.

If it's important enough, Shain could pitch in. He handled golf, UF/college football at 1HP and was outstanding at each. The OS/S-S is (are?) fortunate the Florida teams aren't a factor this year. I'm far more interested to see how the UF beat develops because I'm not convinced that's the right role, right audience, right situation. And, yes, I've read plenty from the writer to form that opinion.

This is a great job, great paper and the vision seems exciting. The problem is truly money. The Tribune Co. looking to take advantage of the weak job market and get a superstar for little money and no moving expense. That is not going to happen unless you swing at someone unemployed or under employed. Someone apparently has already told them no. Good luck to them.

That's interesting about Shain. If ever there were two national beats that could be combined, college football and golf are pretty good fits. It's not like he would have to follow recruiting or spring ball.

And yes, Shain is talented and versatile enough to do it. I'm just sorry Chris Harry didn't hang around long enough to do this, he'd have been perfect.

Randall Mell combined golf and national college sports, mainly football, when he was at the Sun-Sentinel.
