When did this become a Haiti-Spring training debate? Talk about apples/oranges. How did we get there?
I doubt anybody is sitting there with the only 20 they have to spare, thinking, hmmm, Zuckerman? Haiti? Zuckerman? Haiti?

I don't think Mark going to spring with the money he's raised is going to have any impact on Haiti. At all.

And because I care about the Nats middle relief situation and am looking forward to Zuckerman's reporting doesn't mean I'm insensitive to what's going on in Haiti.

Seriously, this whole argument was in blue font, right? No one was really going back and forth on this and meaning it, right?

henryx2 started it, and it's a ridiculous premise. The two are have nothing to do with each other. If I give $10 to Haiti relief and $10 to Zuckerman am I a horrible person because I didn't give all $20 to Haiti? Am I horrible person because I chose to spend $10 on Mexican food last night rather than donate that $10 to Haiti? Wait, I bought a couple of albums the other day on iTunes. I'm a piece of shit because I didn't give that $20 to Haiti relief. That's basically what is being argued here.

Pretty simple, really. It all turned with this statement:

<i>"I'd rather help fellow sportswriters than give money to Haiti.</i>

I would. And a lot of others would. And a lot of others wouldn't. What's the point?

Well, it is simply absurd to even compare the two.

What about giving money to the Nationals to move their spring training to Haiti?

As much as I'd love to give a few bucks to the Nats guy ... the $15 I sent to Haiti was much more well-spent.

The whole Haiti vs. Zuckerman thing might be the stupidest argument ever here. And that's one hell of a mouthfull.

justice and morality pivot over such issues.

the idea that it's "not either-or" and you can "give to both" is begging the question.

if you can give to both you can give to everything, which, as we know, is not possible. it's a zero-sum game.

zuckerman isn't really the issue. it's the "effective indifference" we have to suffering. unless it's in front of our eyes, we tune it out. and return to our pleasures, such as baseball. i'm not sure if it's hard-wired, or if it's cultural.
