I think it's a great philosophical debate worth having, too.

So here goes, henryhenry, Smasher and the others:

If all of us just quit working, quit spending money on anything and quit "the pursuit of happiness," then the wheels of the American economy slow down or stop.

If the wheels of the American economy stop, who's going to help get Haiti out of this mess?

You can't just stop life and sit on your butt because an earthquake happened in Haiti.

By continuing to contribute to society, you ARE helping Haiti.

What gets me are these people (admittedly mostly liberals) who simply want organized religion to go away. They bash it, blast it and make fun of it... without any thought of the cost to themselves and the rest of us if churches, synagogues, etc died off. Because religious institutions large and small carry a heavy load during crises like Haiti.

Henryhenry, could you please post a log of what you do with every minute of your day, and how you spend every dime of your money, so we can make sure that you aren't spending any time or money that could otherwise be helping Haitians?

I haven't given to Haiti yet. And I'm not going to help fund some enterprise's start-up costs. Now both sides of the debate can gang up on me

Actually, I don't think we're ganging up on the people who don't want to give money to Zuckerman. We're ganging up on the people who are say that no one should.

Exactly. Just keep your mouth shut if you don't think it's a worthwhile contribution. And don't make any retarded comparisons to Haiti, because Zuckerman isn't running a charity, he's running a business. The parallel that should have been drawn was to a start-up company looking for investors, not some natural disaster.

Yeah, and if you don't like the TV program, change the channel. And if you don't like someone's column, stop reading the paper. And if you don't like the snow, move to Florida.

You're a genius, you know that?

I'm not sure anyone said the "pursuit of happiness" should end. I know I didn't. If I have the checkbook out and have some extra money available to give, there are at least a hundred causes I'd give to before I sent a sportswriter to spring training.

For the last time, it's not a cause. It's a business. He is offering a service for your donation. I don't think the Red Cross is offering you anything for donating to Haiti, unless you consider your own self-esteem a product.

I'm glad this is the last time you're posting. You're a bore.
