I didn't realize this thread had a prerequisite or deadline to post on it.

I posted plenty awhile back. I've been without internet access for a week. Wasn't sure I needed your permisison. Whiny Boston fanboi comment hit a little close to home?

And the Celtics got lucky in Game 4. It's all relative. I thought it would be the Celtics in six and it's looking that way. They're the better team (as much as it hurts to write that).

I was going to type something about the double standard around here about how it's OK to be a fanboy of some teams but not others, but I honestly realized it would come across as whiny. I've probably made 20% of all of my posts in this thread. I love basketball, the Celtics are my favorite team and they're in the Finals, so I've had a lot to say. If it comes across as homerish, so be it, I think I've evened it out enough throughout and always tried to have some sort of reasoning behind my posts.

Bottom line is this thread is good because when I'm watching a game at home I can still talk about it, and it's fun to get the other side's take. I've gotten into a few pissing matches and it's just dumb. I think after the Finals I'm going take a good break; little too much of this site lately.

JA Adande, who is sort of a Lakers homer among espn analysts, sums up the series:

(Yes, I see his line about not comparing Kobe to Jordan until the titles are equal. As Jim Ignatowski once said, "Good man, Boobie!")

I do agree with you on the first part. I expect Boston to win by at least 20 in game 6, if the Lakers keep playing defense like that(they're way too inconsistent).
But I do believe that whoever wins game 6 will win the championship. If Boston is stupid enough to let this go on to game 7, I have a hard time believing Team Kobe and Phil will lose that one. Wilbon said something that I agreed with after the game. He said you're a fool if you keep giving Kobe chances to win, because you better believe he'll end up beating you.

P.S. I was kind of bummed. It would've been cool to see Doc Rivers win a championship on fathers day(with his dad dying, I believe, late last year). But the Pistons fanboy in me was still rooting against the Celtics. Oh well, back to that ugly ass parquet floor in Boston ;D

I'm not reading near as many whiny Boston fanboi comments as I am whiny L.A. fanboi comments. You would think Lakers fans would be in a better mood following an NBA Finals victory. Guess not.

Yes Oz, I'm SURE your own stated desire for Paul Pierce to win, and dislike of the Lakers (shall I pull up the old RokSki threads?) has NOTHING to do with your reading of this thread.

    Come on, now.

Lakers dorks like myself, Tripp, etc. have been somewhat mellow, downplaying this team that so much media worshiped before the series, responding to loud foolishness such as people acting like it's some kind of revelation that "Kobe isn't JORDAN!!!!" and the Boston fans of the world acting like Garnett is validating his decade-long career in Celtic green with a title.

PIERCE is the one validating all of his toil in Boston with a deserved title. Garnett and Allen are the mercenaries who subtly asked to move to contenders in the twilight of their careers, and now are helping restore Boston to glory.

And yes, Kobe's the jerk who urinated all over his team until they got good. And, shocker of shockers, he is not the assassin that Jordan was, and does not have a Pippen-caliber running mate either.

(The above was a somewhat balanced post, with positive and negative information about both teams in the NBA Finals. Find one from one of the Celtics wonks, one of whom actually complained about the refs tonight).

Oh, no doubt I want Pierce to win, I would never deny that. I always root for the Jayhawks in the NBA.

That said, I'm just saying Boobie seems to be catching a lot of flack here, and he hasn't exactly been a flamethrower during the series. He acknowledged that he didn't want to complain about the refs, so he let that play go, until someone else completed the thought. And he's given credit to the Lakers where the credit is due, saying the Celtics better finish the series in six or it might get tricky. So he made a comment about one play that should have been called a foul ... that didn't merit those comments.

Boobie's been nothing but class, and as such, he walked away without spewing the same venom that came his way.

    God, you've been pissy lately.

You know what? There are some Celtics fans who are obnoxious and there are some Lakers fans who are also obnoxious. But to call every Celtics fan on this site a whiner is rather amusing and makes you look like real fair and balanced.

Anyway, I was very underwhelmed with Garnett's play tonight, though I only saw the second half. Was Perkins not playing the reason he was in foul trouble? I never thought Kendrick Perkins would play such an important role, but Odom and Gasol seemed to have a lot easier time around the basket without Perkins inside clogging the lane.

Pierce played spectacular, but the thing that interests me the most about this series is Kobe Bryant. Is he not scoring tons of points because he's sharing the ball? Because he allegedly can't get it done in big games? Or is the Celtics defense just that good?

I keep waiting for him to score 40-plus points and instead he just keeps firing up bricks. I really think LeBron James is the better player at this point.
