In 641 games he has averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. He'll always average that, probably with a spike at some point.

But he's a liability. Houston figured it out and other teams will do the same thing in crunch time.

That being said, let's see how things work out for 15-20 games with Nash running the point.

Well, they'll do it until there are two minutes left, and then they kind of can't after that.

But, again, there are ways to make up for a subpar free-throw percentage, and the Lakers are still far better off with him on the court late in games than not.

Last season, the Magic outscored their opponents by an absurd margin in "clutch situations" (defined as 4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left, neither team ahead by more than 5 points). They scored 112 points per 100 possessions and allowed only 84. That is the kind of monstrous impact Dwight can have when he gets to full strength.

All of that absurd outscoring never seemed to take place in the first round last season when the Pacers beat Orlando in 5 -- taking the final 4 games.

And when the Magic *did* have a chance to be clutch in Game 4, overtime, they lost.

Howard is a great talent -- probably not a once-in-a-generation type -- but still a beast of a man with the greatest shoulders I've ever seen outside of Malone, and he would serve many a team very well. I just don't want him on the Lakers.

Howard didn't play in the playoffs last year.

Has anyone ever seen Songbird and Michael_Gee in the same room, at the same time?

    Food for thought.

Jesus. He played 54 games last season and was a prima donna the entire time about the contract. Meanwhile, he got a coach fired.

    He quit on the team.

His appearance in the first round would not have made a difference because Indiana was pretty decent last season.

People act like Dwight Howard is some kind of savior for the Lakers. He's a good player, great at times. But he's also no good when it counts. They built teams around him, and Orlando still did nothing when it mattered.

He quit on one team when he wanted out.

If Lakers are still struggling in January?

They made the NBA Finals and then lost to the Lakers. Then they made the Conference Finals the following year. I don't know how that means they "did nothing when it mattered."

Unless the only thing that matters at all is winning a title, which seems like a really short-sighted way of viewing things.
