He lived up to it at Syracuse.

I wouldn't be so quick to anoint Carmelo Anthony. No doubting his ability. But as an NBA player, he has been more of a detriment than a savior. We're not even halfway through the season. The supporting cast has been big. They won that second game in Miami without Carmelo.

That Knicks team is old. And lucky. It is all working right now, but it wasn't built by design. It was built by luck. They didn't plan to have Jason Kidd, let alone having Jason Kidd having the effect he has had so far. Anthony seems more focused, and JR Smith actually seems in control, but that is one old team that may fall apart down the stretch. And Carmelo Anthony can revert to Carmelo Anthony at any time if things start going bad -- perhaps when Amare and Shumpert come back?

My opinion, they'd be best going with a first team and a second team and put Amare on the second team, away from Carmelo most of the time. Tyson Chandler has taken over that pick and roll thing that Stoudemire does, and the two of them were getting in the way of each other last season. With Anthony also on the court, it's just a mess. They'd be best off with a second team with Stoudemire and JR Smith and putting that old Argentinian point guard out there with them, because he runs the pick and roll well. Have JR Smith and Steve Novak as guys you can kick to. Only thing is you give up a lot on defense with that team out there, but you still have a first team intact with Chandler, Carmelo, Felton, Kidd and Ronny Brewer, who fits because he plays defense and stays out of the way for the most part.

I'll believe the whole Carmelo is finally living up to thing only if they get through the season and make a run in the playoffs. Otherwise, I am waiting for this team to fall apart from old age and then to self-destruct. Cynical, I know.

I just wonder if the absence of Amare also helps explain why Melo's "stepped it up" this year.

There was a lot of talk last year about how those two got in each other's way on the court. And that seems to be supported by the fact that each seems to do better when the other ain't playing. Amare was tremendous his first few months in NY before Melo showed up. And Melo is tremendous this season when Amare ain't playing.

So what happens when Amare returns, do you start him? If I'm Woodson, the answer's no. No way I'm messin with the chemistry this lineup has right now. Sorry, Amare, you're now an off the bench player.

If you want to shoot the ball, you get in Melo's way.

Legler just did a great job killing the Lakers in a breakdown.

And someone else besides Stephen A. needs to interview Kobe for an hour.

    How about a detective?

I'd pay to see Barkley interview him.

Yes its NBA hoops before Christmas, but the Warriors, after going 4-0 to start a road trip for the first time since 1991, go into South Beach and BEAT the Heat to go 5-0 on the 7 gamer. There is a toughness to the Warriors that I have not seen since Baron/SJax (that Webber team was fun but only lasted 1 year).

    qtlaw,

You are right about GSW. They're playing very well. They're guarding they have some guys who can score.

They've become my go-to late night League Pass team.

Nice. Someone else is watching besides myself.

The guy who has been most surprising? Draymont Green. I did not see much MSU last year, though knew he was Big 10 POY last year. That guy just does the little things to help you win; a loose ball, a defensive stop, a key rebound, a pass to facilitate an assist. Those things that you wonder why guys who are studs don't/won't do.

I was watching as well. I love this team and they could get even better if Bogut can get healthy. Also, it's Draymond. He's a guy who doesn't do anything great, but does a little of everything.

Never. The Warriors said Bogut had minor surgery. What he really had was microfracture surgery. Not minor at all.

Ah, okay. Also, Curry is a walking timebomb when it comes to injuries. So as enjoyable as they are, there's a chance that it falls apart quickly.
