Perspective from an old, old enough to have covered Jordan's 63 point game in the Garden. At the beginning, such as 1986, it was assumed that the Bulls were shit and Jordan had no chance of winning a title. Then Pippen came, but the Pistons beat them, and there was A LOT of hot takes that Jordan's humongous individual skills weren't suited to a championship team. Wilt Redux basically. Then he won and kept on winning and shut everybody up. Reminder: Russell won his firs title his second year. Kareem the same. And by God, KAreem not winning in 1970 was held against him. The haters and (more accurately) doubters are always there.
My own take, lukewarm at best. They all exist in their own eras. LeBron is the greatest player of his time (name a better!). That's all he or anyone can aspire to be.

The idea of punishing LeBron in the "GOAT" discussion for dragging mediocre Cleveland teams to the finals is just bizarre to me.

Not for nothing, Wilt Chamberlain is extremely underrated, and it’s ridiculous. I know off-topic, but wanted to throw it out there. The guy was absolutely ridiculous on the court.

The only mediocre teams he dragged to the Finals was in 2006-07 and 2017-18. The other teams had Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love and some decent role players.

Well that's just dumb. No one's saying winning is the only metric. Or at least, I'm not.

This is one reason I don't get too hung up on the LeBron vs Jordan debate. I think it's quite possibly an argument over who is the third best player of all time.

    Wilt is my number one.

That's my number two, but there's a hell of a case to be made.

It’s ridiculous. Apparently it’s better to lose in the first three rounds or not make the playoffs than lose in the finals.
