The league would be so much more genuine if players were forced to play for the team that drafts them, with no hope of a pay raise, until they drop dead.

I wouldnt worry, it's a pretty strong limb. The guy is a pretty valuable player off the bench and would improve any second unit in the league. The Pistons were the No. 1 seed every year up until the Celtics had the offseason of a lifetime and Wallace wasn't holding them back.

Baffling why anyone would give Kidd three years at that kind of dough. Glad he took Cuban's money instead of the Knicks'.

Does he have 3 years and $25 million left in the tank?

They need him around to lure free agents in 2010. And they didn't want to have to start J.J. fucking Barea.

Those are the two biggest reasons, I think.

Holy hell. Wallace did win a championship in Detroit, and outside of the technicals, he's been a durable, good rotation player for Detroit. He didn't have a great end to his stint with the Pistons, but he was basically playing on one leg. I'm not sure how much "reforming" he needs, since Garnett and Rivers and Ray Allen seem fine with him. Who else should they check with on the signing? Bob Kraft's wife? The curly-haired boyfriend?

As far as your contentions about troubled players, there is tons of anecdotal evidence on both sides, so much so that I can't fault GMs for continuing to take chances on guys with character issues. For every Randy Moss, there is a Maurice Clarett. It's not something confined solely to sports.

Shocked by both the length and dollar value of the contract. Bigger point guards tend to age better, and Kidd has really worked on his shot in recent years, but still. That's a decent chunk of change. Were the Knicks really preparing to offer THAT much? Most of the rumors have David Lee around the $10 million per year range, with a good chance that he'll leave the Knicks, and the contract Kidd signed puts him at about $8.3 million per year.

Knicks could only offer the mid-level exception, so it would have been 3/$18 mil, which is still too much and too long at this stage of his career. And Some Guy, don't you think Kidd is too old to be much of a lure for next year's free agents?
