Actually what is ridiculous is you calling Walton a flash in the pan.

Walton gets extra credit because he was way more dominant than Rose, a wonderful player, will ever be and because he was certainly a candidate for Greatest College Player Ever. And if I have 1977 Bill Walton, you can have your first choice of all the rest of the players in history for the pickup game before we start swapping picks, and I like my team's chances a lot. A bettable lot.

Some of this is simply the Koufax debate. Like it or not, longevity IS part of the equation. And frankly, Walton was no Koufax.

Moses Malone, for example, won three MVPs, a finals MVP, a championship, played in 12 all star games, and is the 7th all-time leading scorer in NBA history. His career dwarfs Walton's in every statistical category, yet you never, ever hear Moses Malone mentioned in these conversations. People have a romantic attachment to Walton they don't with Malone, and yet at no point was Walton the better player except in college, which Malone didn't need to bother with.

Moses Malone is an all-time historic great player. For a short while, so was Walton. I don't see why it's even an argument. Those are both obvious facts. I don't have to rate greatness, just appreciate it.

In fairness to Gee, Moses had already been taken in the Webster fantasy draft.

Always regarding the extra love for Walton as a residual effect from the overwrought, exaggerated, sweet as a marshmallow soaked in honey and just as unpleasant, adoration for John Wooden.

Walton did have the advantage of having Ian Baker McGinnis as his opponent in the 1977 Finals.

When you start complaining about your opponent's actions and play, you've admitted you're just another team. I expected more from the Heat. Then again, they've got the most elementary offense around. Iso, kick to Haslem for jumper if doubled.

Michael Jordan started complaining to the refs about what his opponent's did before the game even started.

It wasn't so much complaining as it was instructing the refs on what he will and won't tolerate being called.

Seriously, the idea of working the refs and planting a seed has been around as long as newspapers have been covering sports.

That was an attempted kill shot by Haslem. Not sure what a flagrant 2 is if that wasn't it.
