Ozzie gets in for defense alone.

And I still resent him from that left-handed homer -- his first ever -- against Niedenfuer at Busch the in the '85 NLCS. NBC shows a graphic how Ozzie has never hit a lefty homer, and what does he do on the next pitch? Umm, yeah.

    Ummm ... no.

I would say someone like Ron Cey or Graig Nettles.

Dude, I can't think of one. Not like this. Pretty unprecedented stuff.

I mean, plenty of unsung guys have stepped up for one or two (maybe even three) postseason series. Mark Lemke is still one of my favorite players, for that reason.
Obviously, everyone knows about Gene Tenace (whammy! :D) with the A's.
The original Dusty Rhodes had two memorable pinch-hit homers (including a walkoff) for the '54 Giants.

But not a prolonged career full of outpunting your coverage in the postseason quite like Horry's. I've never seen anything like it.

buck, that's why Horry will be such a tough argument for the hall of fame. i have a great affinity for him and his career. sometimes you have to look past the numbers. i'd vote him in.

also, i've wondered lately how tim duncan in his prime might have fared against kareem in his prime. any chance in hell duncan could've hung with kareem or walton or lanier?

It would if the Suns had any balls. All they do is whine and don't give it back to the Spurs.

Tim Duncan 33 points, 19 rebounds.
Steve Nash 6 points, 11 assists, 2-11 shooting

    MVP!!!!!!

I think he could have. Maybe Duncan doesn't have Kareem's sky hook, or Walton's passing ability, but he is absolutely better than Lanier. Duncan likely would have had trouble cracking the All-NBA team half the time, but he's definitely among the best at his position the game's ever seen. He doesn't do anything spectacularly, but does just about everything well.

Are you implying he wouldn't be able to? There have been some fairly decent centers playing during his career and he appears to be headed towards title No. 4. I'd take him over any of the three guys you just named.

I think it's more the average fan who would have no interest in that final. Granted it may not be the most beautiful basketball to watch but to a fan of the game watching those two teams isn't actually a bad thing.

i remember the first time kareem played against houston's twin towers, sampson and (then) akeem olajuwon. kareem ate olajuwon's shit that night: 46 points. but as we know, akeem became the best center after he learned how to play in the NBA. i'm just having a hard time picturing a 1 on 1 battle between kareem and duncan without kareem tearing duncan apart.

I think he's the best PF of all time.
