Jake, did you still want to play tonight? I was going to check out my depth chart and practice for a few minutes before we played if you did.

About to hop on and play my game and it looks like I'm the last to play, so I should be able to advance.

And we probably don't need to switch commissioners unless we think the next round of games would be done within two days or so.

I've got family coming to visit next week, but that shouldn't hinder me too much to get my game in quick.

Jake - Rumple: wow. can't wait to see the box and thoughts from the both of you

Rumple got off to a good start with a couple long runs on the opening drive and scored off of that. I answered quickly on a deep pass and he again went on a long drive to take a 14-7 lead. I did a little clock managing of my own and tied it up with only a little over a half of a minute left in the first. I then got a nice pick with about 10 seconds left, ran it back to Rumple's 34 and promptly hit the field goal off the cross bar.

That was huge, I would have been able to take the lead and have the ball to start the third quarter. Instead I went down the field and scored quickly and got another pick. I played the next drive (too?) conservatively and ended up kicking a short field goal after running a little bit of clock.

Rumple scored but took a lot of time off the clock, so I had the ball pretty much just needing a first down to ice it. I got seven yards on first down but then had two incompletions. I had been just off on both of those plays and was really confident I wouldn't mess up three in a row so I went for it on 4th and 3 from my own 26. Being so deep in my own territory was actually a big reason why I went for it. I had been playing good defense since the first two drives, but Rumple had a pretty nice drive so I was worried if I punted it he would be able to go down the field and run the clock down, leaving me down 28-24 with no time left. At the 26, even if I didn't get it, it would be really unlikely that he would score and run the clock out. Plus, I knew I had a play I could audible to if the coverage was right for a sure first down.

All in all a very good game. RTA.

So it all came down to one play — Jake's fourth-down attempt.

Right after I saw he wasn't going to punt from his own 26 with a little more than one minute left, I paused the game and sent him a message on Xbox. "Really?" There isn't a coach in the nation that would go for it in that situation and I'm not sure any of us would either. Maybe he thought he couldn't stop me and that's OK. I thought I got the stop and was prepared to get the ball back and then he pulls that.

Yeah. I should have stopped it. I didn't. He hit a curl and eventually won the game.

Now it's time to beat the dog out of Indiana and anybody else who steps in my way.

If I have to settle for another Rose Bowl with Hank, I'll be pissed.

I'd just like to send a shout-out to whatever thoughtful media member gave Ohio it's one first-place vote.

While we have a good rivalry in that game, it's becoming pretty monotonous knowing that it's going to happen with regularity.
