"I saw Goody Newton take money from Auburn!"
"I saw Goody Newton take money from Mississippi State!"

    That's what we're headed for.

I suggested to the SID of my local D-2 school today that someone claim they saw St. Cloud State pay Cam Newton $500 and a six-pack of Grain Belt so they can be rendered ineligible and give us a chance to cover a playoff game.

For what it's worth, Cam's mom and brother were at the game tonight. Cecil Newton was not in attendance.

Might as well go all the way.

Briscoe: You're sure you didn't see anything?
    Rogers: I'm sure.
    Curtis: Really?
Rogers: Wait a minute. There was this guy, Bo, I think. Had a bag of cash with $200,000 in it. Do you think that could have been something?

    **

Chizik: I didn't do anything! Ya gotta believe me!
Curtis: You know what happens to guys like you? They give you a final meal, strap you down and give you lethal injection until you're dead while Saban and Meyer watch outside the chamber.
Chizik: Okay, okay. There was this guy, a friend of the program...
    *Door bursts open*
Lawyer: This interrogation is over. Gene, don't say another word.

    **

McCoy: We can't get anybody to talk. We know Auburn did it but we've only got 24 hours until the SEC title game. We know Mississippi State is guilty too but we need their testimony.
Ross: I have to go pick up my daughter.
Schiff: Where are you going, Miss Ross? Auburn's getting away with murder and you're running errands?
Ross: Being a parent is not an errand. And besides, Neil is really challenging me on custody.
McCoy: Go. Adam, what do we do?
    Schiff: Make the deal.

You guys just missed a high-quality redneck Auburn rant on Finebaum just now. Don't know who this lady is but would guess that she's phoning in from a double-wide.

I've said it over and over, schools operating in the world of big-time college athletics should never turn each other in.
Many (mostly male) athletes are paid/taken care of/receptive of benefits in all big-time sports and schools all operate in this environment.

Now, since State chose to pass along this information, why the hell did they wait until January to do it.
They should have done it in the final days of November, just after the alleged incident occurred, or during December.

Failing to report this stuff immediately means this case lacks credibility.
I want to see some local coverage of this aspect.

As an aside, the conference doesn't want to hear about this.
The NCAA doesn't want to hear about it.

But, you should almost never turn another school in.
Certainly not over this piddly stuff, and not two months after it happened.
Not just AFTER the athlete chooses another school.

Damn, this is tainting a pretty positive grid season as well as some good coaching by a heretofore underestimated staff there in Starkville.

Am compelled to note that the SEC is hardly the prototypical model of collegiate football normalcy.

    A possible tie to Auburn:

A lot of people think the FBI angle is tied to Bobby Lowder, the bigtime Auburn booster who runs the athletics program. He ran a bank that was seized by Federal regulators.
