NCAA investigating Cam Newton

I'm still of a mind that Auburn has played this straight, believing, perhaps naively, that their past history with the NCAA infractions folks would make them hypervigilant. Having said that, two things about this are very difficult to believe: 1.) Mississippi State was told it would take $180,000 for him to sign and he then went out and signed with Auburn and 2.) that Cam Newton didn't know about this. No way he didn't know.

That pretty much sums up what I wanted to happen.

Now, I just have to root for Spurrier and the Cocks this weekend.

Nothing is over until WE decide it is!!!!!!

Yeah, I'd say Reggie Bush and USC are a little pissed off right now.

Remember when Tommy Hodson was the QB at LSU? Throughout the season, that dude was ineligible or suspended every day of the week except Saturdays.

Or 3.) everybody laughed at Cecil Newton's asking price and no money changed hands.

There is the anecdote that Cam Newton, crying, told the Mississippi State recruiter he signed with Auburn because "the money was too much." I guess the NCAA chose not to believe that part while believing the rest of the story. They're smart guys with the ability to sort out nuance like that.

Or that anecdote is complete BS, spread by fans of a rival SEC school. Or has the MSU recruiter come forward to confirm it?

We don't know if the MSU recruiter has confirmed it. The NCAA won't say yea or nay. Schad reported it; I would bet money on his version over what Auburn and the Newtons are saying, and the NCAA has indicated that many elements of the case did indeed happen despite the Newton family's other denials.

That's certainly a possibility ... even a likelihood. But as I understand it, money changing hands wasn't an issue. If someone asked on his behalf, that violates the amateurism rules. I guess it matters whether he knew.

Unless Cam Newton told Joe that directly it's just hearsay.

I would believe that Joe's source lied to him.

One interesting point: Cam is over 18 thus his father is not his guardian. Legally he can not represent Cam w/o signed power of attorney.
