So when the loophole is closed, Eric Dickerson's dad won't be able to drive the Corvette that Texas A&M gave him to SMU? That will be good.

Bianchi's column said 105 Heisman voters didn't list Newton at all.

I'm in the group of 105 -- you know, the douchebags. :D

    My view:

Could not vote for a player who, although I think is the best in the nation, should be ineligible according to current NCAA rules.

I'm in no position to pass judgment, since in 2000 I didn't put Weinke on my ballot because I didn't think it was fair to have a 28-year-old competing against college kids even though he did nothing wrong.

My paper flew me to Tallahassee and I sat down with Weinke and told him I wasn't voting for him and why. It made for an interesting story. Weinke was such a class act when I did the story that it made me feel guilty.

And for all you know, LaMichael James is getting paid too.

No doubt, but apparently LaMichael James' father has more tact than Cecil "Sonny Corleone" Newton.

Well, the NCAA has a close eye on the bulk of the SEC schools while usually turning a blind eye to any west coast school that's not named USC.

That reputation is well-earned, but with the Nike dollars available, who knows what and/or who Oregon can buy.

It's a safe bet that a lot of college players are paid, but I think it would be safe to say most aren't sold by their fathers.

Probably a much higher number than you think.
