Some really odd play calling, too. Why the hell would you go to the Wildcat in key situations and take the ball out of Luck's hands? They did it on third and long late in regulation, and did it again in overtime. It didn't work either time.

And to end the day of incompetent announcing, Brent's call is "Fumble... Cardinals win it!"

For all their problems, Stanford's defense only gave up 27 points in regulation. On the road against a good team, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Anyway, Auburn showed last year you can win the national championship with a questionable defense (not that it's going to come to that for Stanford this year).

Because after four hours on air we should hold that against him.

Not a USC fan but thought it got hosed in this game. The defenseless receiver call against USC call on 3 and 6 from midfield on Stanford's tying TD drive was a BS "protect our conference's title hopes" call if ever saw one. The receiver was still trying to catch the ball and the DB got a great lick on him to separate him. It's called "football."

You can't take a running start and hit a receiver in the head. That's been an emphasis this season. Whether you agree or not is your party, but it sure isn't some cloak-and-dagger thing.

I never understood how holding at the line of scrimmage on 2nd-and-5 could create 2nd-and......7? That was the most baffling moment of the game, I thought. During Stanford's 3rd-OT possession.

No discussion of it on TV, either, other than "Kiffin is on the field, going (nuts)."

I love conspiracy theories as much as the next guy, but there's no way the official had time to think through the national BCS ramifications before throwing the flag.

They've called "hits to the head" all season and the flag came out immediately.

I also have some reservations about that rule, but they've been calling those fouls all season.

The sketchier call to me was at the end of regulation ... and not the stupid play call, either.

USC's receiver jumps to the sideline, and the official right on top of the play waves his hands over his head to signal he made it out of bounds.

Then they review the play, in theory to look at whether the game clock hit :00 (it didn't), and decide his knee was down.

    All-righty, then.

Apples and oranges. OT possessions start at the 25 in the tricked-up NCAA system. It's a lot easier to collect TD passes when you're practically in the red zone when you get the ball.

And if it was so easy to score when you're practically in the red zone, we'd still be watching Missouri-Texas A&M...
