That is part of it. Optimism is another part. That is a good point, that the lockout could last into mid-March or later.

I tend to not worry about that in part because my money league is a slow auction (bids that hold for 24 hours are final) that takes up most of February followed by a slow draft (6 hours per pick) for our bench. I've already got one player, Rizzo, who is still a free agent. I may pick up more.

OK, but even keepers are hard without knowing who is where. No advantage/disadvantage as we're all in the same boat, but the variables are certainly a factor.

I hear you, though I imagine most keepers either already are with their teams or they are good enough to be productive no matter what team they play for in 2022.

The way I see it, we have two paths. In one, we stick to a normal timeline with the draft March 24 and keepers about a month earlier. This is my preference, but I'm willing to go the other way.

The other option would be to wait until the lockout is over. Make keepers due a week later, with the draft the Thursday before the start of the season. One problem there is I do not know if Yahoo has the versatility to allow that. It should. I just haven't seen how that would work.

Does anybody else have an opinion they would like to share on this? If nobody else cares, I'm going to keep things simple and go ahead with March 24 as the draft date. I need to make a call soon if we are going to do that so people can settle on keepers.

I'm okay with doing it the other way if there is strong sentiment in the league for doing so. I do see the logic in waiting to do anything until the lockout is over.

FYI: The keeper deadline and draft date on the league site are not final. I just had to put something in to change the settings to a live draft.

That said, I suggest people start looking over your rosters. If you look at last season under the draft tab, you will see where each player on your team was selected in 2021. That will allow you to determine what round each player would cost you. I am leaving the seven-man bench in place, so there are 25 rounds instead of 23. Undrafted players would cost you the highest selection you have remaining at the end of the draft. If you keep multiple undrafted players, please indicate which round you would like to apply to each. For example, if I kept Brandon Belt and Tyler O'Neill, I would list them as follows. You don't have to list the rounds for players who were drafted in 2021, but it would make my life easier. :)

    Brandon Belt 24
    Tyler O'Neill 25

Ok, I know it’s written somewhere.
Last year I drafted Kyle Tucker in the 12th round. If I keep him, is he a 12th rounder or a 9th rounder this year?

And I have Jazz Chisholm undrafted from last year, he slots in as a last round pick?

    Thanks

Tucker would be a 10th-rounder, two rounds higher than where you drafted him last year.

Chisholm would slot into the last round.

You may have seen notifications of moving the draft date around. I was just checking if Yahoo would allow me to move it into April, or even later. It does, so we do have the option of waiting until after the lockout ends to do our draft, whenever that might be.

I spoke with one of the guys in the league who isn't a member here. I'm coming around to the idea of having keepers due a week after the lockout ends and the draft a month after it ends. Both sides have said there would need to be at least a month between the end of the lockout and the start of the season, so that should work.

One drawback is we really wouldn't have much flexibility. The draft would be the Thursday evening a month after the lockout ends, whatever day that might be, even if people have a conflict.

Does anybody have a problem with that idea? By the way, you all can turn in keepers whenever you want. You could send a list in now, then revise it again right up to the deadline.

I don't have a problem with this idea.

So far, it seems like everybody is either fine either way or strongly prefers waiting until the lockout ends. Upon hearing the feedback from others, I've warmed to the idea of waiting, too.

Let's make it official. Next year, hopefully, things will be normal and we will go back to keepers in February and the draft in March.

For this season only, we will wait until the lockout ends to set either date. Keepers will be due one week after the lockout ends. The draft will be 7 p.m. on the Thursday one month after the lockout ends. If we can get at least four weeks between keepers and the draft, we will do that. Obviously, there are some unknowns. This is based on the idea that both sides, owners and players, have said they would need at least a month between the end of the lockout and the start of the regular season.

Remember, you may turn in your keepers at any time, then revise them again later. They become final at the deadline. You may send your list through PM on SJ.com, through a message on the league website, or directly to my email address if you have it. When you do, please indicate the round of draft pick the player will cost you. Undrafted players cost a 25th-round pick. If you have a second undrafted player, they would cost you a pick in the 24th. If you have a third, 23rd round. If you have more than that, what the heck were you doing during the draft last season?!

Seriously, if you have more than one undrafted player, you choose which one corresponds to which round.
