I hope y'all jumped on this before the opening bell this morning; up 5 percent today, the second-biggest gainer on the S&P (by percentage).

    Everyone be safe!

Spent much of my afternoon visiting various stores in my area to get a few specific things we either need right now (new sippy cups -thanks hound dog #1! - a new e-collar - thanks hound dog #2!); things we'll need in a week or so that I ought to have on hand just in case (diapers, some extra dry/canned foods); and the just-in-case supplies (propane, batteries, an extra flashlight, etc.); and then the absolute necessities (alcohol).

Nothing crazy. But due to brands we use, I end up going to Walmart, Petsmart, Home Depot, Costco and the ABC store - in that order. Every single one of them was its own unique and special kind of hellscape. Okay, maybe not the liquor store.

Once I get my wife's prescriptions knocked out tomorrow, I think we're set though.

I did not buy any water. I have a 10-gallon cooler jug, a bathtub and a couple of pitchers that we'll fill in advance.

Are they going to pick the Yankees up for free?

I hadn't thought about it, but Norfolk is going to be an interesting case. They're having trouble there with areas flooding at high tide now. If a storm surge hits there at high tide, it's going to be one helluva mess.

We have had these off shore this summer and as of this morning, they have been moved south. Myrtle Beach area.

Too soon. Hurricanes are notoriously unpredictable. About the only thing you can say with some degree of certainty at this point is that it is unlikely to turn back South and hit Florida.

    Note the word "unlikely".

I don't know who put this together beyond a screen name, but there's a thread on Reddit/CFB that has a ton of useful links all in one place. Scroll down a bit, below the bit about the games.

Edit - the link brought far more than I anticipated, but here it is.

This is SOP for ships when a hurricane nears the East Coast. They did it at Jacksonville (not nearly as many ships) too.

Getting a 5500 watt generator makes you worry a lot less.

And now there's another disturbance in the Caribbean, looking to shoot the gap between the Yucatan and Cuba and into the Gulf of Mexico. No immediate development into a storm expected, but it's something else to keep an eye on.
The folks at the National Hurricane Center are earning their pay this month.
