No idea. Emily Post didn't really cover that.

Semantics doesn't quite mean what you think it means.

A semantic argument is generally thought to be one in which people argue over equally valid terms because one or the other or both doesn't like the connotation.

It's not semantics to point out factual inaccuracies. The lip gloss does not, in any way, prevent date rape.

It's a cute marketing gimmick and nothing more.

You can't slide one of these strips into your drink unless you date isn't there. If your date there, you could just as easily pull one out of your purse or a pocket as you could from a vial of lip gloss. So there's no gain in discretion.

The strips themselves are a valuable and interesting product. The fact that they are packaged with lip gloss is nothing but a marketing gimmick.

And a very small minority of date rapes involve date-rape drugs.

Take it up with the article, Rick.

I figured that by posting the link, people would click on it and get the full details for themselves. "New lip gloss will be sold with drug testing kit in hopes of preventing date rape" seemed to be a bit cumbersome of a thread title.

So do you feel the product will do little or no good?

And Rick is right. Using lip gloss is just a marketing gimmick. But perhaps research said it was the most effective and discreet way to provide the strips in a public setting.

Yes, I feel the product will do little to no good in the grand scheme of things. Full stop, and without any additional unauthorized comment.

If the lip gloss comes in Dr.......... Pepper flavoring, it'll be a hot seller among the women of sj.

Again, the lip gloss doesn't actually do anything. The accompanying test strips, which can be obtained separately, do.

    Thanks, Stoney. Exactly.

Here's nit-picking: neither the lip gloss nor the strips prevent date rape.

What prevents date rape is men choosing not to rape women.

    Perfectly valid.
