new s.i. -- gary smith on agassi

    it's all subjective but i nominate smith's piece on the black guy who was a basketball coach in rural somewhere-or-other and who died of a brain tumor. it's incredible.

    Who wrote the Radio piece? Was that Smith, too?

    From a non-journalist, that was an extremely interesting story which brought out a great deal about Agassi without being long-winded. It did make me long for more (a book) and more of Steffi (and I thought I was the only one who thought she had the best legs in the world.) Amazing how Smith conveyed how Agassi channeled his insecurities and how Agassi totally missed what three simple words would mean to his life. Thanks to Gary Smith.

    Yes. It's included in his new book.

    Personally, two of my favorites will always be his piece on the twin that died at Florida State in preseason football workouts and his profile of Mia Hamm.
