Thanks. That makes sense. Especially if they are trying a 9-11 style attack, taking over the plane. In a situation like this, and the shoe bomber, it does still seem like having them be unrecognizable wouldn't do any good.

No, according to Transport Canada, you'll be allowed to bring on laptops.

Allowed on board will be the following: medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags.

HC is going to NYC for an audition next month so she's looking for ANY alternative to flying out of Pearson.

So, in other words, they aren't banning carry-ons.

Looks like under the Canadian regs I couldn't follow my usual procedure of packing a carry-on with the absolute essentials (shaving kit, one change of clothes) in case Delta an airline loses my luggage again or strands me in a connecting city overnight again.

containers carrying life sustaining items . . . musical instruments.

"If he gets to carry insulin onboard, then I'm bringing my cello, dammit."

I swear, do they just make this shit up as they go along?

No shit. You can bring a fucking trombone case on the plane but you sure as fuck better not try and bring a book on.

I'd hate to think I was looking at a four or five hour flight with nothing to entertain me but a copy of the airline's in-house magazine.

It sounds asinine, but breakability (not a word, it appears) seems to be as big a concern as necessity. A cello is easily as fragile and expensive as a laptop.

    Fiddle is the preferred nomenclature.

Whatever it is they play during "woe is me" monologues.
