How do we feel about Will McAvoy supposedly going on vacation with Erin Andrews? I think if I were EA I'd be a little pissed, but maybe it's just nice publicity for her.
I caught that, too, but perhaps the whole thing was with her blessing, and the timing with her contract expiration ... As for the show, Mackenzie is definitely Natalie, 15 years later. Down to the haircut. I had the same reaction to the new producer as J-School Blue did ... everyone keeps talking about how brilliant he was in the show, but I wanted to hit him. I'll admit, I was taking notes on how calmly the incumbent producer was telling him to STFU. Yes, the incumbent was ultimately wrong about the story, but as someone said, he's set up to be the bad guy.
That was a small detail that I loved about Law and Order. Those little black screens with the music in-between each scene that put a date on there that let you know that what you were seeing was a week or a month or a year later in the investigation. This wouldn't work on many shows, (really, any show where character development mattered so, almost any other show) but it increased my enjoyment of L & O that they thought out that little detail.
Finally watched it, and really liked it. Yeah, some of it was far fetched -- the two close connections that can instantly provide the story on the well, combined with the blogger's encyclopedic knowledge of deep water drilling, all within moments of the alert -- but for drama's sake, sure, I'll roll with it. It's very much "Studio 60" meets "Broadcast News," and that's fine with me. I just hope it doesn't go off the rails like "Studio 60" did. The critical reaction would lead one to think it was a disaster, which is absurd.
That, and if you're going for a quick shorthand reference to broadcast journalist/famous/single/hot, Erin Andrews is the obvious choice.
But in Sorkin's imagination, do high profile broadcast journalists only date other attractive broadcast journalists? Seemed like a bit of an amateurish attempt at being clever, to be honest. I mean, this is someone who is, IRL, allegedly dating Chace Crawford. I think it could easily feel a little insulting to suggest she'd be hooking up with 57-year-old Jeff Daniels.
In the context of the story, Erin Andrews is someone who is famous, plausible, and a name that would probably be aggravating for the former girlfriend to hear. I thought it worked fine. And trust me, there is no shortage of attractive, smart, successful women who will swoon over successful news anchors 25 years their senior.
I can't watch the Road Runner anymore because the coyote couldn't possibly get up after all those falls off the cliff.
Well, it's at least getting a second season. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/hbo-renews-the-newsroom-true-blood I want to like it more than I actually like it, but I'll keep watching and hope they work out the kinks.
