Disagree. All the men sound the same.

All the women sound like the men, only stupider.

God, I hate Aaron Sorkin's women (WITH EXCEPTIONS don't harp on me)

Totally agree, and yes, it's a problem.

Well, dumb people from flyover country speak slowly, but everyone else sounds exactly the same.

Sorkin on criticism of the show:

    He makes some valid points.

As to all dialogue sounding the same, I go back to my original premise. Watch the pilot of The West Wing again. Leo goes off on a rant that was clearly a Toby rant. Leo never speaks like that again through the entire course of the show. Bartlett sounds pretty one note in the first few episodes, too.

I don't think they sounded alike at all by the fourth season of TWW.

If the actors take the characters and make them more distinct, they'll sound less like each other, and I bet Sorkin will write them that way, too.

    Again, they need some time.

Not that I am loving the show, but I did like the last episode. I am hanging around.

I haven't looked ahead to see how many episodes there are...but aren't they going to run out of real-life news stories to play off of soon? They already blew through 2010 and Giffords. What major news stories are going to be touched on (extending into season 2)?

    Looks like Mubarak next week...
So, what's left? My guesses to be touched on is:
    Japan Earthquake (March 11)
    Bin Laden (May 1)
    Hurricane Irene (Aug.)
    Occupy Wall Street (Sept. 16)
    Gadhafi killed (Oct.)

I wonder if the teary smile stuff was more for the idea that they stuck to their guns on getting the damn news right rather than the fact that Giffords was indeed alive. At least that's how I read it ...

  7. Same here. Also, given the shooting last night, how much more powerful is that final scene? I've watched it a handful of times again today in light of how the Aurora shooting has been covered.

Ehhh. For that you give a fist-pump, not a teary smile.

Have people given up on this show? That's a shame because last night's episode was easily the best one so far.

  10. I'm someone where if I expect a show to be good, I stomach the badness in hopes I'm proven right. I don't think Newsroom's been bad or great so far, but I haven't seen this past one.

HBO owes me some kind of financial recovery program for going through three seasons of Hung.

  11. The last two episodes have been pretty strong.

I thought last night's was good, though the bit about one person after another getting hurt was a bit much. Also, do people really cry during the jersey scene in Rudy? Really?

The episode before that? The ending was strong, but that was about it.
