i don't think that 6-1 stat is correct, considering cincinnati lost at ohio state and virginia tech

it sure was... and after that point, it was 35-10 georiga. ok, wvu blew them off the field. and then georgia came back. sure, they blew them off the field for the first quarter and a half. not sure if you know this, but the game is four quarters.

So 6-2, still the best in the nation.

Incorrect. It has no I-A national champion.

And it needs a 16-team playoff.

Tennessee is getting way too much mileage out of that opening win vs. Cal. This is a team that beat Air Force 31-30. And if we're going to continue to reward West Virginia (which you don't, in fairness) for winning its bowl game last year, then shouldn't Tennessee get punished for last year's 5-6 debacle, for consistency's sake?

I'd say the bloom is off the SEC rose by now. I think the bowls will play that out. Notre Dame over Florida in the Sugar Bowl. And someone will beat either Auburn or Tennessee, maybe even both will lose, in their games, as well.

Notre Dame better plan on beating USC. They're still one spot out of No. 8 in the BCS, which gives them an automatic entry to a BCS bowl. They have Army and Air Force coming up, which hardly will be worth a lot of style points. If Notre Dame loses to USC, they will be in the Gator Bowl against Maryland, Clemson or Wake Forest.

Speaking of the BCS (I hope I'm not d_b'ing this) did anybody read Dodd's column yesterday on Sportsline?

Apparently, there's another loophole for Boise State to get an automatic berth.

It's largely been reported that the Smurfturfers have to be in the top 12 to land a BCS bid. However, if they're in the top 16 and ahead of BCS conference champion, they still get an automatic bid.

Considering the five ACC teams are below Boise. It's looking pretty good for the Taterstaters to go to the Fiesta Bowl.

So they would go in as one of the at-large teams or in place of the ACC champ?

    They'd get an at-large berth.

You're both wrong---Boise or any other mid-major conference champion has to be among the top-12 to get into the BCS. Notre Dame needs to be in the top-eight.

You might want to tell that to Mr. Dodd. See the fourth note in this column.

Correction....Boise gets automatic berth with top-12, unless they're top-16 and ranked ahead of a BCS conference champion in the final BCS ranking...there, got it.

By the way, Mr. Dodd has been known to be inaccurate. Please don't try to correct a mistake by pointing someone in his direction.
