Awesome. George King will now go on a story-breaking rampage. Not good to get him energized.

No one's broken anything, far as I can tell. When somebody has a story with something Steinbrenner actually has done or said about the Torre situation instead of what he's supposedly thinking, get back to me.

Here's an example of what's really wrong with the Yankees:

    Gary Sheffield in Monday's papers:

Gary Sheffield said that decisions such as his benching in Game 3, and A-Rod's move from sixth to fourth to eighth in the lineup, "affected the morale and psyche of the entire team, not just A-Rod.
"I'm not making any excuses," Sheffield told USA Today. "But everyone was wondering what was going on. ... You would like to be treated with a little respect, I don't care [whom] you play for."

    Gary Sheffield in Tuesday's papers:

"I knew a lot of stuff was going to come out soon after we lost but I didn't expect the finger to be pointed at Joe," Gary Sheffield said. "I didn't think anybody would point the finger at Joe because he is a hero in New York."
Asked if Torre deserves blame for two straight first-round exits, Sheffield said it goes to the players.
"It's always on the players," Sheffield said. "I don't care, it's always on the players."

It's a team full of aging, overpaid, selfish scumbags like Sheffield, Giambi, Johnson and Mussina

    Okay, so Torre is staying.

How long until the announcement that A-rod is going?

Depends on what night the Mets beat the Cardinals.

    And Jeter.

I'm still trying to figue out why any of this is news.

Doesn't the Daily News have to be accountable somehow for jumping the gun? Or do the New York tabs not care if they're wrong?

the mantra at the tabs is: "dare to be wrong."

madden's shaken, no doubt, but tabloid life will carry on. always does.

And if -- and when -- Torre gets fired next June, they'll still say they had it first.
