I guess the columnist just assumed that coaching Iona had to drive you to drink.

I remember him as a very good player who was deadly from 15 and was one of the best players on a bad team. Sad his career was cut short.

To answer my own question from above, I guess at his peak he'd be a $9 million/year player today.

He and Rick Mahorn had some kind of nickname. Pretty good players.
I've had Jeff Ruland mad at me, if only briefly. Not a lot of fun. Said "fucker" a lot. Long time ago.

If the Gaels don't win a game pretty soon he might start hitting the sauce. I think they're 0-20 and that's saying something in the MAAC.

Ruland and Mahorn were the Bruise Brothers.

Yeah, his team is 0-20 and you're a bigtime looser, too.

Weren't Mahorn and Ruland known as McFilthy and McNasty? Not sure who was who, though.

Didn't Ruland's career end because of an achilles injury caused (or exacerbated) by an errant luggage cart at the Boston Garden?

Where do you work for a living?

    Iona College.

Wow. Where did you come up with the kind of money to start that?

It was Johnny Most who named them McFilthy and McDirty. Ruland's mother lived in the Celtic radio listening area, and when she complained about the way Most would just rip her son, he opened his next Boston-Washington braodcast with, "Mrs. Ruland, if you are listening, change the channel."
