Patricia seems like he could be content being a DC forever.

I'll never understand why these NFL owners don't just pay a Jim Harbaugh $20 million a year.

It's a league of quarterbacks and coaches. The coaches can always be acquired.

Counterpoint: If you don't have the quarterback, you're going to suck anyway. Maybe skimp on the coach until you hit the QB lottery, then go out and get a top-shelf coach.

First, you have to find the top shelf coach and pay him a bundle. Second and more important, the owner has to have the self-discipline to let said coach run the organization while the owner thinks about things like naming rights, signage, local TV deals, etc. Third and most important, owner must have the self-discipline to watch said coach get all the credit for any success.

Jim Harbaugh got a heartbeat away from the Super Bowl with Alex Smith and a heartbeat away from winning the Super Bowl with Colin Kaepernick.

Yeah but those guys were damn good QBs for the three years Harbaugh coached them. (Smith is still pretty good but not as good as he was with Harbaugh.)

Harbaugh will be back in the NFL within five years.

Only one player on whole roster older than him, DE William Hayes. They're likely to get even younger, so that part of it won't be an issue. Whether or not he rose too fast from an experience standpoint is certainly a fair question.

McVay was super aggressive relative to the average NFL coach. I hope he keeps that up. The NFL coaching ranks are bloated with the John Foxes of the world.

Of course, he needs a receiving corps. I have to imagine L.A. targets a couple in free agency.
