I said in real time it was a terrible spot -- and it has held up that it was a terrible spot.

He got that first down. The only official who could see where the ball was when Allen pushed forward correctly marked him with a first down. I'm not a conspiracy theory guy and I can't imagine why the league would want to favor any team, but I can understand why people look at things suspiciously.

As my high school football coach would say if we whined about a call: If we’d gotten two yards, we wouldn’t have left it up to the zebra. Shut up.

The rules don't say you need 12 yards for a first down, that you have to beat out an infield grounder by two steps, or you must swish a shot for it to count as a basket.

The rule is, Buffalo needed 10 yards in four plays to get a first down. It certainly appears it did.

Your high school football coach sounds like a moron I hope he wasn't your father :)).

Oh, he only won 300 games and two state titles and is in the Ohio High School HOF. What did he know?

Losers make excuses. He loved to say “So what. Now what.” Control what you can control.

Josh Allen refusing to go over right guard was a bigger decision than that call.

Sounds as if he knew how to coach football. Still sounds like a moron. I also bet that on a fourth-down play when he made a first down by a whisker he didn't say, "We didn't make it by two yards and remove all doubt. Their ball."

You gain 10 yards, you get a first down. Buffalo did.

The point escaping him and you is that the game is supposed to be decided by the teams, not the officials' mistakes.

Do you think that's a clear call either way from that video? The ball is short, then at the money moment when it might have gotten there (or might not have), Chris Jones is in the way and you can't see the ball at all. Allen's helmet gets past the line, but does the ball? I can't tell.

    1. IMO it was a bad spot.
    2. My opinion is hardly conclusive on the matter.
    3. One place where I think it is conclusive is that the spot did not determine the game's outcome. Buffalo subsequently tied the score and had multiple opportunities to tie/win it but could not make the necessary plays, especially on defense, down the stretch.
